Hi, I’m Scoobie—professional softie, full-time sweetheart, and part-time expert in making humans question if they’ve ever actually known kindness before meeting me. My personality? Think warm honey drizzled over sunshine with a side of “I just want to love you forever, is that okay?” I’d love to tell you I came into this world like a golden retriever commercial—sunshine, slow motion, tail wagging in a field of wildflowers. However, that is not my story. See, life didn’t exactly start out as a fairy tale for me. I don’t talk about it much, but let’s just say I didn’t grow up knowing the best of humanity or what it meant to be someone’s “spoiled baby.” And when I finally thought things might change… I landed in a shelter and almost never left. Four months. Four months of watching other dogs get chosen. Four months of hearing kennel doors open… just not mine. Do you know what that feels like? To keep wondering if you’re doing something wrong… if maybe you’re just… not the one anyone is looking for? Especially when you’re told you’re the kind of dog people usually line up for. Turns out, even “designer” doesn’t guarantee you a happy ending. But here’s the thing about me—I didn’t give up. I’m still here. Still sweet. Still trying. And now that I am safe in rescue, I’m learning that the world might not be so scary after all. That hands can be kind. That being part of a family isn’t just something I watch happen for other dogs. I’m figuring out how to be a dog now—how to relax, how to trust, how to exist without always waiting for the other shoe to drop. There are still new things I’m getting used to. Grooming? Let’s just say… not my personal favorite activity (but hey, I was pretty matted, so I get it). Learning routines, learning comfort, learning that I don’t always have to be on guard… it’s all a work in progress. But if you’re looking for a dog who will love you with his whole heart once he knows he’s safe… If you’re the kind of person who understands that the quiet ones often have the deepest love to give… I might just be your guy.
On paper? I’m basically the dog version of a sold-out luxury item. One-year-old? ✔️ 35 pounds of perfectly portable fluff? ✔️ Goldendoodle? ✔️ (yes, that word people put on waitlists for) Adorable muppet face that looks like I was hand-sketched by Disney? ✔️ But here’s the part they don’t always put in the doodle brochure…Not all of us start out as someone’s spoiled, well-socialized dream dog. Some of us had to figure life out the hard way first. So while I’ve got all the “desirable” traits on paper, what I really bring to the table is something a little different—a soft heart that’s learning how to trust, a gentle soul that just wants to belong, and a quiet kind of love that grows deeper the safer I feel.
When it comes to other dogs, I’d like to formally announce that I am an excellent coworker. Take my friend Rosie, for example. We have a very professional relationship where we… chase each other at full speed, wrestle like it’s an Olympic sport, and then immediately pass out like we just worked a double shift. I’m not here to start drama. I’m not here to be the boss. I’m not scheduling meetings or filing complaints. I’m just here for good vibes, respectful play, and maybe a shared nap afterward. I’m pretty good at reading the room (and the dog). If they want to play, I’m in. If they want space, I’m like “totally fair, I will simply exist over here and mind my business.” So if your current dog is looking for a fun, easygoing friend who won’t steal their job or their identity… I’m your guy. When it comes to cats… I would like to say I am a respectful investigator. Like yes, I’m curious. Very curious. You’re small, you move mysteriously, and you act like you pay the mortgage—of course I have questions. BUT. I am also a gentleman who understands boundaries… especially when my human uses the magical phrase “leave it.” Apparently that means, “Scoobie, stop your investigative journalism immediately,” and I’m like, “understood, shutting it down.” So while I may observe, sniff, and occasionally consider writing a full documentary titled “What Even Is a Cat?”… I do listen, I redirect well, and I’m learning. When it comes to kids, I’ve been spending time with the teenage crowd (13 and 16), and honestly… I think I nailed the assignment. I’m gentle, affectionate, and fully committed to the art of the cuddle. No chaos, no nonsense—just me casually leaning in like, “Hi yes, I live here now, please continue petting.” That said… the tiny human tornado phase? Probably not my speed. I can startle easily with quick movements or loud, unpredictable energy, so I’d do best in a home with older, more respectful kiddos who understand that sometimes I just need a minute to process the world.
Energy level? Oh, I’m sitting at a solid 8/10—which means I’m the perfect mix of “let’s go do something fun” and “wow, that was great, I will now nap like it was my full-time job.” As for car rides—I’m happy to hop in like a pro. No lifting required, I’ve got legs and I know how to use them. Once I’m in, I do just fine… however… let’s just say I believe in keeping my options open. Doors open? Windows down? I might consider a surprise “field trip.” So basically: I ride well, I load myself, I just need a secure setup so I don’t audition for “Fast & Furious: Scoobie Edition.” At least in the beginning, when I am still learning that I don't have to live my life in flight mode anymore. Am I an adventure dog? Eventually, sure. Right now? I’m more of a “let’s not emotionally spiral today” kind of guy. I’ve been through some things, okay? So while I do have that fun, playful side, what I really need first is something a lot less glamorous than mountain hikes and brewery patios… Stability. Routine. A home where I can finally exhale and realize I don’t have to be on edge anymore. Right now, I do best when life is a little predictable. A safe space, familiar people, a rhythm I can learn and trust—that’s how I start to relax and let my personality really shine. Once I feel secure? Oh, we can absolutely start adding in new adventures, little by little.
Alright, let’s talk about my lifestyle requirements. First things first—I am not an “apartment with a quick leash walk” kind of guy right now. I need a securely fenced yard… and even then, I would like to politely inform you that I come equipped with advanced landscaping skills if left unattended. All I have ever done in my previous life is run, so until I know I am home security and supervision are key with me. Crates? Hard pass. I spent months in one before, and I’d really prefer not to revisit that chapter. The good news? I’ve been free-roaming for short periods and doing great—no redecorating projects or destruction, just me existing like a respectable member of society. I do enjoy the finer things in life, like couches and beds (specifically yours). I sleep in bed like the sweet, slightly oversized stuffed animal that I am. I’ll bark if other dogs start something through the fence—because I believe in standing up for myself—but I’m not out here yelling into the void for no reason. I need regular grooming. It is not optional. I am a doodle. This is part of the contract. HOWEVER… I currently feel very strongly that groomers are suspicious individuals with questionable intentions. We’re going to need a patient, experienced groomer and an adopter willing to work through that with me over time.. Am I perfect...no. But I’ve also got a whole lot of sweetness, a desire to learn, and a heart that’s trying really hard to trust the world again. If you’re someone who sees potential, not perfection…and you’re ready to help me become the dog I was always meant to be—I promise, I’m worth it.
