Story
Bandit got along well with our 2 cats. He loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed. He is very friendly with strangers and goes up to them for attention. When we lived in a house we could leave him alone with no problem. Now that we live in an apartment we don't like leaving him alone as sometimes he barks when we're gone. Now We can't let him run freely as he did when we lived in our house. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations.

Story
Willa and Sylva are the last remaining Ridglan beagles available for adoption at Winona Area Humane Society. From the time they arrived, a special bond existed between the two. And because of how much they rely on each other, they must find an adopter willing to welcome them home together. No matter where they are or what they’re doing, Willa and Sylva are constantly checking in with each other. The strength of their bond was evident when they were separated for spay healing, and every day since then they’ve been close by – playing together, sharing a snooze, or just existing in their comforting companionship.Willa is the more people-forward of the two, leading the way when new friends come to visit and parking herself for chin scratches. She takes on the role of Sylva’s protector, keeping an eye on her and being her source of reassurance.Sylva brings the energy to the party. She’s all about running laps and exploring new places, but she always circles back to check with Willa – and she’ll often greet new people only if Willa approaches first. Sylva also demonstrates how to ‘sit pretty’ and mastered it surprisingly early on.While they enjoy the company of other active dogs too, they really match each other’s energy the best and would thrive as the only two dogs in the home.Willa and Sylva came from an environment with limited exposure to normal dog life, and welcoming them home will be a rewarding, time-intensive, gradual, hardworking experience. While they’ve progressed tremendously already, possible initial home behaviors include being fearful, shut down, vocal, difficult to leash, uncomfortable with handling, and unfamiliar with household objects. They may not seek any affection right away, or they may be anxiously attached. Potty training accidents in the home should be expected and patiently handled over time.We encourage thoughtful self-reflection and honesty about your lifestyle, time availability, home setting, financial flexibility, and commitment to this unique experience. Decompression, structured routine, anxiety support, and LOTS of patience are critical to their long-term success. If you’ve considered the factors above and wish to meet Willa and Sylva, fill out the application on their shared bio at winonahumane.org/adopt. Potential matches will be contacted to schedule a visit with these two special girls!
