Story
Meet Taco! Taco's story nearly ended before it had the chance to begin. He was brought to a veterinary clinic to be euthanized due to severe skin issues, but a compassionate veterinarian chose to advocate for him instead and reached out for rescue. We are still learning about Taco, but what we do know is that he had very little exposure to the world before coming into our care. He reportedly spent much of his life living outside with limited human interaction. Taco speaks Spanish and arrived extremely fearful and shut down. Despite his fear, Taco has shown us that he is a gentle soul. He enjoys affection from people he trusts and is making progress every day. The leash has been particularly scary for him, but with patience, kindness, and plenty of Vienna sausages, he has already started learning that good things happen when humans are nearby. Taco is currently working on building confidence, learning household routines, and discovering that the world is a safe place. He will need a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let him move at his own pace. Every day Taco grows a little braver, and we can't wait to see who he becomes now that he finally has the chance to be loved. If you're looking for a sweet, resilient dog who deserves a fresh start, Taco may be the perfect match for you. ##2760280##

Story
***LOCAL ADOPTION IN TEXAS ONLY*** Meet Rufus He's not for everyone, but that's what makes him special!   Rufus is a gentle, sensitive boy who forms strong bonds with “his person.” Once he trusts you, his personality really starts to shine—he’ll get excited for meal times, follow your routine, and just enjoy being near you.   He loves spending time in the backyard and feels most comfortable hanging out with his dog friends. Other dogs help him feel more at ease, so a home with a calm, confident pup or two would be a great fit.   Rufus is nervous around new people and in unfamiliar situations. He may not immediately take treats from someone he doesn’t know yet, but that’s because trust means everything to him. With time, patience, and consistency, he continues to make progress and build confidence.   He’s looking for a patient, understanding home that will let him go at his own pace and celebrate the little wins along the way. In the right environment, Rufus will be a deeply loyal and rewarding companion.   Rufus will need a dedicated person or family to give him time and small steps towards a loving life.   ##2566466##

Story
Meet Tigger — a sweet, soulful terrier mix with a long, lean build and an even bigger heart. This special girl has been through a lot and is ready to find the loving forever home she always deserved. Tigger is incredibly affectionate and bonds deeply with her people. She loves being close to her humans and will happily soak up all the love and attention you can give. She’s fully potty trained, enjoys short bursts of playtime, and has a curious little explorer streak — she may wander off to investigate, but she always comes back on her own. Tigger can get along with other dogs and even cats when introductions are done slowly and properly. However, she would truly thrive in a calmer home where she can be the center of attention. She can be a little possessive of her humans and has a bossy, herding-style personality at times — similar to a Heeler or Aussie — and may nip at other dogs to “put them in their place.” She has never been in a fight and does not show aggression, but because of her strong personality, Tigger would do best as an only pet or with just one calm, respectful furry companion. Tigger would also do best in an adult home or one with older children (12+), where her boundaries and need for a peaceful environment will be understood. Tigger was rescued from a difficult situation and tested positive for early heartworm disease. She is currently on a slow-kill treatment plan and will need continued monitoring and prevention. She previously received ProHeart 12 and will continue follow-up treatment as directed by her veterinarian. Tigger also takes Vetmedin to support healthy heart function, though she does not have heart disease. Because she is recovering, she needs restricted activity while undergoing treatment.   The only other requirement for her ideal home is a fenced yard, as she has a tendency to dart out the door if given the opportunity — which is also why an adult-only home would be the best fit for her. While we understand that not everyone has a fenced yard, it would provide her with the safest and most stress-free environment. That said, we are open to considering exceptions for the right home and family. Despite everything she’s been through, Tigger remains loving, loyal, and full of sweetness. She’s looking for a patient, caring home where she can feel safe, loved, and cherished for the rest of her life. If you’re searching for a devoted companion with a gentle spirit and lots of love to give, Tigger may be your perfect match. ##2366209##
