Jane Austen

Havanese

Female, 6 yrs 2 mos
Springfield, MO
Size
(when grown) Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
Details
Good with kids, Good with dogs, House-trained,
Story
Behaviors: Cats: Unknown (but would probably be fine with them) Other dogs: Great! No aggression shown at all. Children: Good with kids! Adults: Great with men, hesitant with women Potty Training: Trained! (must keep her on a schedule) Other behavioral info: Jane Austen is the calmest, coolest, quietest dog. She is a true lap dog! She does really well with potty training as long as you keep her on a schedule. She sleeps in her kennel or in bed with her humans, depending on her mood. She does not have her right eye -- while it does not seem to bother her, you do have to approach her from her left side. Jane Austen is still very nervous around women. She prefers men and is not comfortable going to the bathroom in front of a female yet. She has made progress with her foster mom, but she is definitely a daddy’s girl. She is a smart, easy-going, loving, quiet and snuggly-soft little girl who needs a loving and patient family to help her continue to come out of her shell.

Story
Behaviors Other dogs: Edith Wharton does well with other dogs. She follows the pack for confidence and wants to play with them out. Cats: Not interested in them Children: Would not do well with kids. Edith Wharton does not like loud noises or sudden movements. Adults: Very timid. Does not take treats/food from hands. Will tolerate touch but does not always seem to enjoy it. Potty Training: Edith Wharton is potty trained – outside or will use potty pads at night/when scared. Crate: Does not enjoy a crate. Other behavioral info: Edith Wharton is a sweet, beautiful girl. She is very shut down and scared. She is so sweet, but she needs time to learn how to be loved. She spent 6 years in a puppy mill. Loud noises or disruption to her routine seem to set her back. She likes to know where we are but doesn’t always want to be in the room we are in. She sits in doorways, so she has an escape route and to not feel cornered. She will let you hold her and pet her, but she doesn’t always love it. She seemed very scared of her crate, so we haven’t been using it. She is confined to one room when we leave for her safety. She has made the master closet her den; we’ve added piles of blankets and pillows for her. Edith Wharton won’t take treats for your hand or food if you’re watching her. She will only eat if you turn your back or leave the room. We feed her in one room away from everyone else and leave her alone until she’s done eating. Great things about Edith Wharton: Edith Wharton loves to be outside. She really shows her personality in the yard. It would be good if she had another dog who would play with her. Sometimes she will follow us in, but sometimes she wants to run and play or lay in the grass and we have to carry her in. She doesn’t like to be caught in the yard but will lay down and let you carry her. A fenced yard is a must. She is a flight risk and shouldn’t be left alone outside even in a fenced yard. She does her business outside. There have been a few pees inside when she has been too scared to go out or late at night, but always on potty pads. Musts for Edith Wharton: A fenced in yard with a furever home committed to being outside with her at all times. Patience. Space for her to eat alone. Another dog who will play with her.
