Meet Alfred (Alfie) 💙
Alfred first caught our hearts when we saw photos of him sitting in a high-kill shelter in California. This sweet little boy urgently needed rescue due to a severe fracture in his upper femur that required immediate surgery. Thankfully, surgery and healing was completed before Alfred made his journey to Canada, giving him the second chance he so deserved.
Today, this resilient little guy is healed, thriving, and ready to find his forever home.
Alfred is a 3-year-old Mini Poodle, weighing just 9.8 lbs and standing about 11 inches tall, with a personality much bigger than his tiny frame.
He's wonderful with other small dogs, greeting them politely and usually without a peep. When meeting new people on walks he can be a bit shy at first, sometimes choosing to tuck behind his person for reassurance. If there's a dog involved though, his curiosity quickly takes over, he'll happily greet the dog first before cautiously sniffing hello to the human.
This little guy lives for his walks and can hardly wait to get out the door each day! His leash manners are still a work in progress, he may zig-zag and try to move ahead because the world is just so exciting. Alfred loves to stop and smell everything along the way. Once he's home, he often releases any extra energy with a round of joyful backyard zoomies.
Alfred is an active and playful poodle boy who loves toys and will happily toss them around the room to entertain himself. But once his day winds down, he becomes the ultimate cuddle companion. His favorite place to be is curled up on the couch with his humans, often settling into their arms like a baby while everyone relaxes for the evening.
He's doing well with house training as long as he's let out regularly and isn't destructive in the home. Furniture is safe, but bully sticks and treats of all kinds are definitely his weakness. Alfred is a bit of a foodie!
Crate-wise, Alfred has a routine. During the day he isn't a big fan of being kenneled and may cry or paw at the crate, but at night he sleeps quietly in his crate beside his foster's bed with no issues at all (especially when a bedtime treat is involved).
One of Alfred's most adorable quirks is his happy dance, when he's excited or wants attention, he kicks up his hind legs in the cutest little move that always makes people smile.
Alfred would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time, as he doesn't enjoy being left alone and clearly loves being part of the action. In return, he'll happily accompany you everywhere, especially on car rides in his raised car seat, which he absolutely loves.
Sweet, resilient, playful, and incredibly affectionate, Alfred is ready to start the next chapter of his life with a family who will cherish him just as much as he deserves.
