Meet Babs (Barbara if you`re fancy)! This young girl is a fresh face to us here @ CVHS. She was recently brought to our organization after her previous human found themselves in a position of unfortunately no longer being able to care for her. Babs is also a dog that is unfortunately a victim of poor genetics. The `merle` in her coat pattern has been duplicated, and the merle gene affects pigment. Those pigment cells are critical for normal development of the inner ear and eyes. As such, she seems to have no visual difficulties but has presented as likely being deaf. What does that mean for Babs in a future home? It means adoption! She will benefit from the ability to rely on sight, touch, and routine instead of sound. Her future family should know that some quirks are to be expected. Things like staying on leash and/or appropriate fenced in yard due to inability to hear recall or offering a small tap on the floor to create vibration for a gentle wakeup is reccomended so as to not startle awake. She is currently spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and more.
