He is vision impaired but it definitely does not stop him. He eats well, has great potty manners, and his little tail wags all the time! He is the best boy and it breaks our hearts he has not been adopted yet. But he remains happy and ready for his new home. Update 5/25/2025: Chester remains happy and is ready for adoption Foster mom says, he is absolutely the easiest boy I have fostered. He's happy and he loves everyone! He is a joy! Meet Chester! He is a sweet senior poodle (mix) from the Chesapeake Animal Shelter. He is a sweet little old man looking for a warm lap and all the love he can handle! He was originally in a shelter and adopted to a family but ended up as a stray again. Now he is safe in our rescue and looking for a place to retire. He will need to see an eye specialist and the primary vet then he will be available for adoption. He is vision impaired but he doesn't let that get him down. He is a 'go with the flow' kind of dude! Chester had his dental Monday, May 18th and came through with flying colors. Foster mom said he slept through the night, got up and took his meds like a champ then settled back down for a post op senior snooze! Chester is a very spry little man. What he lacks in vision he gained in heart. He is very loving. His tail wags all the time. Now that his dental is completed and his mouth is feeling so much better, he is loving life. He's just the perfect boy according to foster mom! Chester does have a low functioning thyroid. He is currently on medication for this and will need to remain on it for life. The medication costs about $3 a month from Chewy. He is also on eye drops for a few weeks. He will return to the eye specialist to see if he will need them forever. Chester is the victim of neglect. If someone would have taken him to the vet as a puppy, he most likely would not be blind. The eye specialist said her guess would be he had distemper as a puppy which can cause blindness. Routine vaccines can prevent so many unnecessary issues in dog. Please use this example as a reminder to vaccinate, spay/neuter, microchip, and test for heartworm disease. Remi is a precious little girl who is just beginning her new chapter in rescue after coming to us from the Chesapeake Animal Shelter as an owner surrender. While it was a difficult decision for her previous family, it's clear that Remi is ready to find a loving home where she can truly thrive. Though she's still new and we're getting to know her personality more each day, one thing is already certain-Remi is incredibly sweet and gentle. She does have some cloudiness in her eyes, but she navigates her surroundings well, and her foster mom does not believe she is fully blind. Remi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines, so she's ready for her forever family. She has a great appetite (she loves mealtime!) and is making steady progress with house training. She is crate trained, sleeps peacefully through the night in her own bed, and has a calm, quiet nature-she rarely barks. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has even done well with a rabbit in her foster home, showing her gentle and easygoing temperament. Remi also enjoys cuddling and being close to her people, making her the perfect little companion.   > If I had to pick one word to describe Booker, it would be resilient. At just 8 years old and 11 pounds, he’s a Yorkie/Poodle mix who was found on the side of the road in a quiet ruraL of Middle Tennessee. He was rescued on one of the hottest days of summer, and when he was found his fur was so horribly matted, that he had to be shaved down to the skin by the vet tech who is NOT a groomer. She did the best she could do. Now he is starting fresh and slowly he is growing out and his fur is now a beautiful white. From the moment he arrived, Booker won over the whole foster family. He loves to be close to his people and is incredibly affectionate. He gets excited about everything! His love for life and his courage is just incredible to watch. This boy loves everyone and every creature he meets.  He is also very good with dogs of all sizes and is great with kids, too. > Walking on a leash is still a work in progress, but he has come a long way. With some more time and practice, he will be a great dog to take on walks. He also enjoys playing in the backyard, chasing butterflies just like Dolly Parton. Booker is crate-trained or will happily sleep beside you in the bed all night. He can spend all day resting next to you without any complaints or making any sound.
