Story
Meet Novak - lovingly known as Parker - a 7-year-old, 46 lb. Husky mix with a heart as big as his comeback story! Quick Facts: Name: Novak (Parker) Breed: Husky/Shepherd Mix Age: 7 years old Weight: 46 lbs. House-Trained: Yes but has occasional accidents out of fear (will wear a belly band) Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes (older, gentle kids who can respect his boundaries) Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: Yes Special Note: Novak has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy and has had 3 seizures since being with the rescue. He is currently on Keppra twice a day to manage his condition. About Novak’s Breed: Our best guess is that Novak is a Husky/Shepherd mixed breed A Husky–Shepherd mix (a blend of the Siberian Husky and the German Shepherd) is typically an intelligent, loyal, and energetic companion. These dogs often combine the Husky’s playful spirit and endurance with the German Shepherd’s trainability and devotion to their people. They tend to be active, alert, and happiest when they have both physical exercise and mental stimulation. Their ideal home is with an experienced, confident owner who can provide consistent structure, positive reinforcement training, and plenty of daily activity. A fenced yard is often a great fit, as many enjoy running and exploring safely. Because they can form strong bonds with their families, they usually thrive in homes where they’re included in daily life and not left alone for long stretches. What to Love about Novak: Rescued as a stray in heartbreaking condition, he was severely underweight and suffering from significant hair loss. Fast forward to today, and this resilient boy has regained his healthy weight, grown back his beautiful coat, and blossomed into the sweet, soulful dog he was always meant to be. Novak has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy and is currently on Keppra twice a day. Despite this, he looks and acts like a happy, healthy pup and doesn't let his condition get him down! He continues to thrive physically and emotionally in foster care. Novak is currently learning the ropes of potty training. He does wonderfully wearing a belly band—he keeps it dry overnight like a champ! While he occasionally urinates indoors, it appears to be behavioral and often happens when he’s left alone. Because of this, he may do best in a home where someone is around more often than not. He is crate trained and can be crated when you’re away. Given his past, he can sometimes guard his crate or resources—but he responds beautifully to calm redirection and treats. He’s smart and eager to learn! This handsome boy would love a patient, experienced family willing to move at his pace and continue building his confidence with positive reinforcement. Loud noises and quick movements can make him nervous, so a calm environment would help him feel secure. He has done well meeting a 9-year-old and would likely thrive with older, respectful children. Because of his resource guarding, a home without very young children would be best. Novak is fantastic with other dogs and enjoys spending time with the German Shepherd in his foster home. He also lives with four cats and does well with them—though he may occasionally try to chase one, he’s easily redirected. He can play a little rough with dog friends, but he is never aggressive with people. He loves walks (and is great on a leash!), car rides, and playing ball. A fenced-in yard would be a dream come true for him—a safe space to run, play, and burn off energy. While he has a playful and active side, he also enjoys lounging and relaxing at home. He strikes a wonderful balance between fun-loving and laid-back. Like most Huskies, Novak can be vocal, so apartment living wouldn’t be ideal. He would do best with someone who works from home or is home often—but he’ll also need gentle practice being alone to prevent separation anxiety. He may need to continue wearing his belly band long-term, but he tolerates it without fuss. At his core, Parker is incredibly sweet, funny, and smart. He has made amazing progress and is truly a joy to work with. More than anything, he wants to feel safe, loved, and part of a family of his own! Novak’s Noteworthy Highlights: • 7-year-old, 46 lb. Husky mix with a resilient comeback story • Fully recovered from being underweight with severe hair loss—now healthy and thriving • Smart, sweet, and eager to learn; responds well to positive reinforcement • Making great progress with potty training; keeps his belly band dry overnight • Crate trained and comfortable being crated when home alone • Wonderful with other dogs; enjoys playing (even if a little rough at times!) • Living successfully with 4 cats; easily redirected if he gets playful/chasey • Has done well with older, respectful children (met a 9-year-old and did great!) • Loves walks and is great on a leash • Enjoys car rides and adventures • Loves playing ball and would thrive with a fenced yard to run and play • Nice balance of playful energy and relaxed lounging at home • Affectionate and people-oriented—truly a sweetheart at his core • Looking for a patient, calm, experienced home where he won’t be alone too often If you have a calm home, a fenced yard, and a heart ready to give a deserving dog the TLC he’s been waiting for, Novak just might be your perfect match! I'm Lola, your 60 pound bundle of husky happiness!  I am a grown-up girl who is 4 years old.  I'm a total sweetheart with a playful personality, and I've never met a human (old or young) thatI didn't instantly adore! I'm a gentle girl, always up for cuddles, head scratches, and maybe even a few stolen kisses. I am way too interested in cats.  So I need to find a home without kitties so I can be on my best behavior.   Outdoors, I'm a zoomie champion! I love to run and play, especially with my foster sibling. But don't worry, once we're back inside, I transform into the perfect houseguest. I'll curl up and chill out until it's time for another adventure.   I would love a fenced yard and a furry male playmate in my forever home. I am a social girl who will do best in a home with a male dog. But, if you are up to playing and walking with me, that will work too.  I need my exercise to get my wiggles out!  I'm already a leash-walking pro and can't wait to explore the neighborhood with my new family.  I'm a quiet around the house except when I get excited.  My foster mom is working with me, I am a quick learner,  to not bark when I'm excited!  I am not a fan of the crate but I don’t need a crate because I have great house manners.  My foster mom works from home so I sit quietly while she does her work.  I have been left along 4-6 hours with no problems.  I am potty trained with no accidents in the house,  crate-free, and I promise not to chew your shoes.  If you're looking for a loving, loyal, and sweet companion who's always up for fun, I might just be the girl for you! &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.     Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING  LOLA?
