Story
Raccoon is a handsome male Australian Shepherd/Husky mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 11, 2026 along with his four siblings (Buck, Foxy, Groundhog, and Kitty) after they were found on Straight Run Road in the Lowell Ohio area. Raccoon and his brothers/sisters were 4-months old at that time and Raccoon weighed 22 lbs. Raccoon has a tricolor medium-haired coat with a unique black/white pattern on his chest/belly, a long tail, and an adorable face with dark brown eyes, tan eyebrows, a white/cream-colored muzzle, and extra-large erect ears. Raccoon was a happy youngster. He and his brothers/sisters were all about fun-and-games when they were at that young stage of their lives :) They loved to engage in silly puppy games .. They sometimes played rough .. but they always loved each other to curl up with for a group nap afterwards. Raccoon went home with a foster family on March 14, 2026 who planned to adopt him after he was neutered, and he was very much loved by his new family. Unfortunately Raccoon's foster family returned him on August 8th 2026 due to their living situation and work schedules since they weren't able to be with him as much as Raccoon deserved. So Raccoon is available as a foster-to-adopt with another lucky family. His previous foster family reported that Raccoon is afraid of loud noises, and he is also afraid/intimidated by larger boisterous dogs. Raccoon is naturally quite a bit larger today than he was when his 'puppy pictures' were taken on March 14th 2026. We had an opportunity to take updated pictures of this good-looking young man when HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos spent time with him for outdoor photos on the afternoon of August 9th. Raccoon is still a happy boy who is full of playful puppy-like energy. Raccoon was delighted when Angel sat down on a bench near the front entrance to the shelter, and he quickly jumped on her lap (and also gave her some great puppy kisses). Raccoon posed like a professional model for Dog Fancy Magazine and was a pleasure to photograph. Raccoon seemed a little too interested in the outdoor shelter mascot kitties but, of course, we didn't really know his true intentions/feelings toward the cats. Raccoon is currently 10-months old and weighs 45-50 lbs. He is fairly strong/rambunctious on a leash but settles down after a sudden burst of energy. Raccoon would love to find a fabulous foster home while he awaits his neuter procedure and even better if that individual/family would offer him a forever home after he is neutered.

Raccoon weighed 22 lbs when he entered our shelter on February 11th. Raccoon and his brothers/sisters are all about fun-and-games at this young stage of their lives :) They love to engage in silly puppy games .. They sometimes play rough .. but they always love each other to curl up with for a group nap afterwards. Raccoon and his siblings will be spayed/neutered before they are officially adopted. They could be fostered-to-adopt while they are awaiting those procedures with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application. Update: Raccoon went home with a foster family on March 14, 2026 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered. Unfortunately Raccoon's foster family returned him on August 8th 2026 due to their living situation and work schedules. So Raccoon is available as a foster-to-adopt with another lucky family.
