Meet Dakota: A Journey to Finding a Forever HomeIntroductionDakota is a stunning 2.5-year-old Siberian Husky who has found himself in the shelter's care several times. Weighing in at 41 pounds, Dakota is a healthy and hearty dog, being heartworm negative and up to date on his vaccinations, including rabies and Bordetella. Despite his challenges, Dakota remains a friendly and energetic dog, embodying the typical lively spirit of a Husky.Dakota's HistorySince July 24, 2025, Dakota has been with the shelter three times. Each time prior, his owner reclaimed him promptly. However, since August 21st of this year, Dakota has been awaiting a new home, as his previous owner has not come forward.Health and Medical CareUpon his most recent arrival, Dakota had an injury to his rear right leg and foot. Initially, there was concern about a possible fractured pelvis, but x-rays taken on August 26th confirmed that his pelvis was intact. Although he has two broken toes on his right hind foot, Dakota bears weight on it comfortably, and x-rays show positive boney regrowth and stabilization.Personality and TemperamentDakota is a typical Siberian Husky—energetic, vocal, and friendly. He gets along well with both people and other dogs, making him a wonderful companion for an active family or individual. He is already microchipped, fully vetted, and ready for adoption or fostering.Searching for a Forever HomeDespite reaching out to multiple Husky rescues, Dakota has not yet found a new home. We are seeking a loving and committed adopter or foster who can provide Dakota with the care and attention he deserves. If you or someone you know might be interested in giving Dakota a forever home, please consider filling out an application. Dakota's vibrant spirit and affectionate nature are sure to bring joy and companionship to any household.Thank you for considering Dakota and helping us in our mission to find him a loving home.

Still growing into my medium frame, I'll need some puppy training and socialization, but my easygoing nature makes me a great fit for active families. My adoption fee is $119, and I can't wait to meet you and become part of your pack! ❤️ THIS PET IS ON A WAIT LIST AND NOT IN THE CARE OF THE SPCA OF POLK COUNTY, PLEASE EMAIL CONTACT@SPCAPOLK.ORG TO ENQUIRE
