Story
Cheyenne is a beautiful, elegant, soft, and mildly shy little girl who was dumped in the wilderness to fend for herself, and is suspected to be related to Shadow, an Australian Shepherd/Husky mix taken in from a neglectful situation. Cheyenne is estimated to be about a year old. She is a little shy when meeting new people, but once she gets comfortable, she has been great with the adults, children, and other dogs she's met. Cheyenne is still in the process of completing her veterinary (she needs her spay and rabies still), and will be fully adoptable when that is completed. In the meantime, we would love to find a foster or foster-to-adopt who can help build her confidence and exposure prior to spay! She and her sister love each other dearly, so we'd love to find the girls a home together, but they also enjoy the company of other dogs and Cheyenne enjoys having a doggy friend for confidence, so if Cheyenne & Shadow can't be placed together, the ideal home would have another doggy friend for Cheyenne to love, play with, and draw more confidence from!

Story
Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/application Please do not call the shelter; do the application first. Shasta comes from a large group of dogs abandoned in a remote mountain area, where they survived with almost no human interaction. Luckily, several of them, including Shasta, were brought into our adoption program so they can finally experience the love, comfort, and security they’ve never known. For Shasta, the world is still a very new place. When she arrived, she was caring for two tiny puppies (Pepsi and 7-Up, who are also seeking homes). Her strong maternal instincts kept her babies safe, warm, and well-fed, but also made her extra cautious around unfamiliar people and situations. As those instincts ease, Shasta is slowly learning that people can be gentle, predictable, and safe, but she can still struggle with approach-and-retreat behavior, especially when more than one person is present. A safe space is incredibly important for this beautiful girl. She will thrive with a cozy crate or quiet area where she can retreat whenever she needs to feel secure, with the door open so she can choose when to engage as her confidence grows. Shasta gets along wonderfully with other dogs and did great during her nose-to-nose introduction with a cat through our screened catio. With thoughtful introductions, she may do very well with a calm, dog-savvy feline. She is about 2 years old, weighs around 65 pounds, and appears to be a lovely blend of shepherd and husky, complete with one striking blue eye and one warm brown eye. Anything else in her mix is a mystery we’d love to hear about if you decide to run a DNA test! Shasta is reliably housetrained and ready to begin the next chapter of her life with someone patient, gentle, and understanding. She may never be the kind of dog who eagerly jumps in the truck for bold new adventures, but she will be the kind of dog who forms a deep, quiet bond with her person. The kind of dog who makes your heart grow three sizes simply by trusting you. If you have a calm home, a soft voice, and the patience to let Shasta bloom at her own careful pace, she will reward you with a loyal and tender companion for life. All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Shasta is a suggested minimum of $150 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
