Story
TERRIER EXPERIENCE MANDATORY.Beauregard, who goes by Beau, came to us after his owner passed away. His life was a little up in the air for many days after his owner's death as he became part of an estate left to a church. For two weeks he lived in a kennel and there was talk of euthanizing him if a home could not be found. When someone stepped up to help save his life, Beau was so stressed and anxious that he acted out being very snappy and biting at the kennel door when his rescuer went to open it. YIKES! But are very happy to announce, that within only a few days, he has become a much better boy, HOWEVER, he has the thinking of a purebred terrier ... he's stubborn and it's pretty much his way or the highway. His rescuer has been bitten several times when trying to do things to him that he does not understand. With all this said, he has had a "reason" to bite every time. He bit when we were giving him a shot. He bit when we were trying to take off his pajamas after his neuter surgery. Both times he bit, there was pain involved. Otherwise, he's a good boy. He's not one of these unpredictable dogs. He will lay on the sofa with you and turn upside down to let you rub his tummy. He is excited when you get our the leash because he knows he's headed out for a walk. He pays no attention to other dogs on walks or when he's out on a shopping spree at Petsmart. He's fine with kids, although due to this history of biting, we will not place him in a home with children of any age. This dog allowed his case manager to pick him up, load him in a crate to go to the vet to be neutered and again after his surgery with zero issue. No growling, no snapping ... nothing. He rides well in a car with no drooling or vomiting and he's excellent on leash. He is also crate trained and loves his crate and will put himself to bed many times on his own. Beau has been fully vetted and was found to be heart worm positive. Ugh. He received his Proheart 6 injection from the vet on July 2, 2026, and he is on his way to being heart worm free but it will take several months. So whoever adopts him will need to keep this in mind as more follow-up vetting will be required. We believe this little dude is a Jack Russell terrier and an Australian cattle dog mix (maybe). He's definitely heavy on the terrier. Regarding his house manners, we learned he was 100% outside in his former home. Due to his wanting to hike a leg in his foster home, he began his rescue journey, living outside (which he has done all of his life) and he was attached to a tether just in case he thought about digging out. But it became apparent he is not a digger and within a few days of settling in, he has been allowed free roam of the back yard and as the temps crept upward, in the house he came and after only attempting to hike his leg a time or two, with immediate correction, that stopped. He has no fear of men or women and he's fine with other dogs but he's always been an only dog and we believe this would be the best situation for this boy. He doesn't seem to really have any interest in other dogs. He definitely landed in the right foster home with a couple who has put a lot of love and effort into training him (even though some Bandaids were required). We know there is a great home out there for Beau. He's a fun little dog with some quirks that are not all that bad. He just needs a home where he is understood.
