Story
Figaro is an almost 10-year-old Maltese mix weighing 13.5 pounds. This little guy has clearly been through a lot in his life, and because of that he can be shy and a bit stand-offish when he first meets new people. He prefers to observe, take things in, and move at his own pace while he decides if the world feels safe. Once Figaro trusts you, though, his true personality shines. He has already bonded closely with one of our volunteers and will happily leap straight from the floor into her lap if she dares to stop giving him attention. When he’s comfortable, Figaro is a happy, affectionate boy who wants to be close to his person and soak up all the love. Figaro will need a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let him set the pace, especially with things like grooming and other situations that make him nervous. Because he values his space and boundaries, we recommend a home without children, or with older kids who can be respectful and gentle with him. He would make a wonderful companion for a single woman, as he tends to be more nervous around men, though a calm and patient man could absolutely earn his trust as well. With understanding, consistency, and love, Figaro will reward his person with deep loyalty and a truly special bond. His minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
