Story
Meet Ralphie, a teenage labradoodle who truly defies all the doodle stereotypes with his super calm demeanor.  Ralphie is a sensitive soul who cherishes one-on-one time with his humans. He is ready to cuddle at all times. Hold him in your arms like a baby and he closes his eyes like what’s happening to him in that moment is the best thing in the entire world. He never tires of being loved on.  Ralphie is mostly poodle — a combo of standard and small poodle — with about 20 percent Labrador retriever, according to his breed test. He’s about 10 months old as of February 1 and weighs 40 lbs, putting him on track to be 50 lbs or less when full grown. He’s super food motivated, very intelligent, and potty and crate trained.  Ralphie sadly went through some hard times before coming to rescue. He was found in the middle of the road, unable to walk, right before Christmas. Ralphie was emaciated and fearful, totally worn down and traumatized from his life. Thankfully, he has gained strength, physically and mentally, and has truly blossomed in his foster home. Given his past, Ralphie could easily be a resource guarder around food or attention, but he is not. He is kind and loving to all dogs, adults and children in any scenario. He never meets a stranger; every human is an opportunity to connect. Ralphie is a truly unique dog who will impress you within a second of being in his presence. Everyone who meets him contemplates adopting him because he’s just that captivating.  Ralphie deserves the best, so we’re looking for an equally special home for him. Here’s what we want for Ralphie:  • Someone with lots of time. Perhaps someone who works from home or someone who is newly retired. Ralphie thrives on attention. We want as much of that for him as possible. • Another dog in the home. Ralphie blossoms around other dogs and loves to play. We think a dog sibling would bring a lot of joy to his life. Ralphie is gentle and awkward when he plays, so his ideal playmate wouldn’t play too rough. • A large fenced yard. We want him to have the freedom and safety a fenced yard provides. He loves to run with his doggy companions, but taking him to a dog park would be too much for him. If you like dog parks, then Ralphie is not the dog for you.  • A moderately active human. Ralphie tolerates walks and is truly amazing on a leash. He’s the type of dog you could take anywhere. He is a very slow walker, though, so he wouldn’t be ideal for someone who wants a running companion or plans to go on all-day hikes.  • A human who doesn’t mind a dog in their bed. Ralphie sleeps quietly in his crate, but he absolutely loves sleeping in the human bed. He’ll stay in the same spot all night and move closer to you when he senses you’re awake. • Someone who doesn’t care about all that hypoallergenic and non-shedding stuff. Yes, he’s a labradoodle, but we don’t think Ralphie came from a reputable breeder. He does shed a little bit. While his grooming needs seem to be minor compared to most doodles, an adopter should have the means to have him groomed regularly if necessary. Please only apply for Ralphie if you feel like you are the perfect fit for this special boy.
