Story
Nova is appx 4 yrs old and 70 lbs. She is a sweet girl who loves people and loves to be with you. She enjoys going for walks and being outdoors. She must have a secure fenced yard to be safe in while enjoying her time outdoors. She uses a doggy door and has done very well with that. Nova loves to get belly rubs. She can be a bit choosy about her doggy friends so needs slow introductions with new dogs. She is not a candidate for a home with small dogs or cats.July 13, 2024, 12:26 pm

Story
* Contact his foster home at SaveMeAdoptMe@gmail.com or text or leave a message at 573-512-2102 .*Sweet Casey had a rough start, he was found hit by a car at about 4 months old but was not taken for any medical care so the break in his back left leg healed best it could. He does not seem to be in pain when he runs or walks and his leg will always be crooked. Vet said reconstructive surgery is an option, but he would probably not be able to bend the leg anymore and no guarantee of making it better. Only concern is that the knot hits his other leg when he runs and because it is only protected by skin needs to be watched so it does not open and allow infection. Amputation is another option if starts to have issues, but he has been just fine. He is a wonderful, happy boy. He is housebroke with full-time access to doggie doors. He sleeps in a crate at night if needed. He enjoys the other dogs and plays most all day with a couple of the younger dogs and would do well with a canine companion. Not sure how he is with cats, but when on leash by the cats after his initial excitement and smelling he basically ignores them. Not sure on his breed, he's super sweet, attentive, seems as if he would be easy to train. He does kind of get excited and rush to meet new dogs but not in an aggressive way, he just wants to know what's going on around him. Just a guess on his breed mix but his easy to maintain coat is more like a beagle or hound, his colors almost like a Pyrenees, and trainability maybe like a lab?? His estimated DOB is July 2022 and weighs about 55 lb.Adopter can receive a 1-hour free training session from Let's Get Pawsitive LLC .Contact this animal's foster home at SaveMeAdoptMe@gmail.com or text or leave a message at 573-512-2102. Story
Darcy was found as a stray by animal control and brought to the shelter so we don't know her history. She is friendly with people (once she gets to know you) and dogs as long as she is not cornered or pressured. She will nip if she feels se is trapped. Still has alot of energy as she is a younger dog. UPDATE: Darcy has been diagnosed with Addisons and will need to be on medication the rest of her life. This is a monthly injection and her electrolytes will have to be checked periodically. Since she has been diagnosed and kept on her medication, her weight has stabilized and she seems to be her happy self again.A little about Addisons: Addison's disease in dogs occurs when the adrenal glands stop functioning properly, preventing them from producing the hormones they need to. This can affect the dog's stress response and electrolyte balance, and can be caused by a number of factors, including injury, tumors, medication, diseases, or immune-mediated disease Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 38.4 Age: 2yrs 6mths 3wks

Story
Meet Bruno! Bruno was brought to the shelter due to a bite incident with a small child bothering him while he was in his crate. He is anxious of loud noises (children crying), but can be ok with an older child if monitored. He can be sweet, and fun loving, but will need an experienced owner as he does not like taking direction or being corrected. He loves going for walks, and is always up for a a good game of fetch. He has a unique curl to his tail that just adds to his overall cuteness. Primary Color: Black Weight: 52 Age: 3yrs 3mths 4wks

Story
We have another very special pup to introduce you to, and her name is Tart. We guess her to be a lab mix that was born in our care July of 2020. Her and her siblings were all very happy puppies, but as they became older and got closer to weaning, Tart began to lose the function in her back legs. She was born with a parasite called Neospirosis, and was the only one in the litter affected by it. By the time our veterinarians figured out what was happening, we were able to get her treated to prevent further damage from spreading, but unfortunately, the joints in her back legs were already deformed .The muscles atrophied and paralyzed leaving her unable to walk. Eventually we were able to fundraise enough to get her a wheelchair, which helped her build the upper body strength needed to support herself. She doesn't walk like a normal dog, but she does an amazing job getting around on her own without anyone's help. Tart's drive to conquer her disability and enjoy life is so inspiring! She does enjoy going outside for short walks, Tart gets along well with other dogs, and absolutely adores attention and affection. Having been born at the beginning of the pandemic, she didn't get the stranger socialization she needed. She is a little slow to make new friends, but is easily won over with treats and love. All Tart has ever known is the shelter, and she is a very special part of our Dogwood Family. But she is so deserving a family of her own! However, there are things that should be considered prior to her adoption. Tart isn't incontinent, and she can certainly be house trained, however, it's going to take a special environment to do that in. She is not capable of getting in and out of cars on her own, or navigating stairs. She can use a dog door if its low enough, but it's still difficult for her. When she was seen at the university, her specialist said there would likely come a time in her life where she will sadly need her wheelchair again. We know it's going to take someone just as extraordinary as she is to bring her home and provide the care that she deserves. If you're interested in meeting this special girl, or have any question as to the requirement of her care, please don't hesitate to ask! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 50.8 Age: 4yrs 0mths 1wks
