Story
Brooks • Dachshund Mix • 1 Year Old • ~10 lbs Brooks is a petite, one-year-old Dachshund mix who came to rescue from a hoarding situation. We believe that before coming into care, he had little—if any—positive human interaction. Because of this, Brooks is understandably cautious and shy with people, especially in new situations. While he may be fearful at first, once Brooks feels safe and builds trust, he shows his softer side and enjoys being near his people. He does best with calm, patient adults who understand that confidence comes with time, consistency, and gentle encouragement. What truly helps Brooks thrive is having other dogs around. He takes great comfort from canine companions, learns by watching them, and gains confidence through play and routine. For this reason, Brooks must be adopted into a home with at least one other dog. He has a fair amount of energy, and running and playing with other dogs is an important outlet for him. Brooks would be happiest in a quiet, adult-only home with a secure, fenced yard, where he can explore safely at his own pace. He is shy but making steady progress and continues to blossom with positive reinforcement and structure. If you’re looking for a gentle little companion and already have friendly dogs who can show Brooks the ropes, he could be a wonderful addition to your home. Brooks is ready to find the patient, loving family he’s been waiting for. All Heart of America Humane Society dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Adoption fee: $225 for all dogs and puppies. If you have other dogs in your home, we require that they meet our dog prior to adoption. Apply to adopt: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAUS/

Story
Hi there... my name is Apollo

Im a 1-year-old Dachshund mix&#44 and while you might expect short little legs&#44 surprise! Ive got some long legs that help me trot right into your heart. Im a sensitive soul who takes a little time to feel safe&#44 so I can be shy and cautious when we first meet-but once I trust you&#44 Im a very loyal little guy.

Id really love to be your one-and-only pet&#44 because having other dogs around makes me a bit uneasy. I do best in a calm home with grown-ups or older kids (over 5) who understand that I need patience&#44 gentle voices&#44 and space to come out of my shell at my own pace.

If youre looking for a devoted companion who just needs a little extra kindness to shine&#44 I might be your perfect match. Come meet me today-Ill be waiting&#44 long legs and all!
