Story
To adopt from East Coast Maine Coon Rescue (ECMCR) please fill out our adoption application which can be found on our website: http://www.ecmcr.org/form_adoption_application.phpNC - CP Beauty - is a gorgeous black Maine Coon mix.  She is FIV+.   Beauty is a beautiful solid black cat with gorgeous yellow eyes. She has lived most of her adult life outside and homeless at a feed/seed mill. This is likely where she picked up FIV. She has been out of the mill and fostered now for about a year. She is rather untrusting of strangers until she gets to know them. At present, she doesn’t like to be picked up but will heartily come jump in your lap! She is healthy, extremely affectionate, and really craves and loves attention. She will nudge your hand to keep petting her. She loves to play with wand toys and all kinds of ball toys as well as little stuffed animals that she can bat around. She needs an understanding kind-hearted owner who has time to spend with her and one that is sensitive to her special needs. She really enjoys the company of people (in spite of her initial fear of them) and also likes other cats. She has not had experience around dogs.  Beauty is a Courtesy Post cat and does not belong to East Coast Maine Coon Rescue.  She is located in Winston-Salem, NC  27104.  If you are interested in finding out more about sweet Beauty, please contact Gina at taffycatrescuer@gmail.com. Story
Dax is a 10 year old Maine Coon whose Mom went into Senior Living.  She is currently in a temporary foster home. She is a beautiful apricot and brown girl who would flourish in a quiet home without children or other pets. She likes to be pet and brushed until she has had enough.  She will let you know its time to stop! Her favorite pastimes are watching the birds outside, assisting me when I work on the computer, and getting a good workout on cardboard scratchers! She comes to me when I motion to her and often comes to greet me when I walk into the room, assuming she is in the mood. She would make a great companion and is looking for her forever home where Her Majesty can reign! ##1970261##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online  Adoption Application adult black Maine Coon boyThese gorgeous boys, Bertie and Lucian, are bonded and should be adopted together. They were found together abandoned in a home, quite a while after their human had gone to a nursing home. It appeared that no one knew for some time that the cats were left behind. The person who found Bertie said the following: "If I am petting the smaller one, Lucian, Bertie will get between us. He is the more affectionate of the two and will sit on your lap and make biscuits. All in all, he is a good boy!" Bertie is a sweet and affectionate adult black Maine Coon Mix boy with strong American MC features. Stormy weather enhances the beautiful green glow around his mostly gold eyes. The vet estimates him to be about 8 years old. He is very tall and long with a long fluffy tail. He would be considered quite a large build. Poor guy was quite underweight at intake, though he is now just right. His foster mom can attest to Bertie's affectionate lap cat nature. He loves attention and will seek you out for it. He will jump to the highest point nearby for face-to-face interactions. He will even softly stroke your cheek with his paw in the sweetest most adorable way! He loves hugs and kisses on top of his head. He will weave in and out around your legs rubbing all over you. He is a curious boy and likes to be involved in whatever you are doing. Bertie sometimes joins Lucian in a silly game of run, play, and hide under area rugs. That is right, UNDER! It is hilarious! This could also be a trip hazard, so these boys may not be for a home with someone disabled or elderly where tripping is of specific concern. It is also advisable to provide them with safer options that allow them to enjoy this type of play. They need a very quiet, low-activity home with very patient gentle adopter(s) who are willing to work lovingly and consistently with them (see Lucian's bio at the link below). Both cats will hide upon entering a new home and when scared. Bertie is more of a "tree dweller" type, so he should be provided with acceptable high hiding and climbing places. All hiding places should be where you can still reach them when necessary. Bertie & Lucian would also do best as the only two pets in the household. No children nor dogs. There should be nothing noisy or unpredictable. At the same time, Lucian's ideal home should provide ample space and opportunity to run, get his zoomies on, and play to his heart's content. To summarize, HE should be the noisiest most active thing in the household, LOL!  Their foster has worked with them on their food insecurities and to gradually get them up to a healthy weight. Both can be quite picky when it comes to food. It took an extra long time to find foods they would eat consistently and gradually get them to eat an appropriate amount after nearly starving. If they don't like it, they will not eat enough. Potential adopters should be willing to keep them on a high-quality, no-kibble diet such as healthy all-wet food. Any additions or changes to their diet should be very gradual. Seeming to stem from their food insecurities, they tend to act aggressively toward other pets whom they may see as a threat to their resources. They can exhibit territorial behaviors, particularly during meal times. They can act friendly in general with other cats, but then lash out aggressively if they perceive their meal might be in jeopardy. Thus, the recommendation is that they be the only household pets. These boys have been happy with natural litters, showing a strong preference for walnut shell litter. They prefer their litterboxes be kept quite clean. They did eliminate outside the box when they had upset tummies from parasites - a bed became their target of choice. So, if they do relieve themselves elsewhere, that is a good indication a vet check is in order. They may also go right outside the box if they don't like the litter. It has become clear while in foster care that Bertie has a textbook Pica disorder. His "addiction" seems to mostly focus on wool-like textures, such as insulation. This can also translate to the stuffing in cat beds or plush toys, so best to avoid those. When in pursuit of it, he can be destructive and at times act out aggressively. In the absence of wooly items, he may also eat cardboard. It is imperative that he does not have access to such items. Neither of these boys should be anywhere with a drop ceiling. Bertie does not exhibit mentioned negative behaviors in the absence of stuff that is "addictive" to him - his true nature is an ideal, lovable cat! His Foster is happy to discuss further details with potential adopters.  Bertie has the signature Maine Coon double coat so he needs frequent grooming to prevent matting and keep his gorgeous coat in good condition. He has come to love gentle grooming as part of affection and cuddle time. Bertie has received a clean bill of health from the vet. He had a full senior blood panel with good results. Tartar on his teeth helped the vet in estimating his age and he has since had a fresh dental. Bertie is located in Lake Ariel, PA. We would like to keep them within 200 miles of Lake Ariel, PA. However, each application will be looked at on a case-by-case basis. If the adopter does not meet halfway an $85.00 transport fee will be added. Bertie's Adoption Fee is $150.00. Lucian's Adoption Fee is $175.00. There is a $25.00 discount for adopting 2 cats. The adoption fee for both boys would be $300.00. Bertie's Adoption Fee includes the following: neuter, updated FVRCP Vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, Wellness Exam, bloodwork panel, dental, Flea Treatment, Dewormer, and Microchip. They are worth going the extra mile for!   For more information please contact Maine Coon Rescue at: adoption@mainecoonrescue.net.   Date of birth: 09/01/2015 Location: Lake Ariel, PA Available for adoption: Now   To fill out an Adoption Application click here. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online  Adoption Application adult black Maine Coon mix boyThese gorgeous boys, Bertie and Lucian, are bonded and should be adopted together. They were found together abandoned in a home, quite a while after their human had gone to a nursing home. It appeared that no one knew for some time that the cats were left behind. The person who found Lucian said the following: "He likes to give headbutts. Doesn't necessarily like laps but does love to be petted. He has the softest fur of any animal I've ever known. He's a bit adventurous and mischievous. He's a lovely boy. They both are the sweetest, bestest boys. I don't know how long they were left alone. They managed to rip into a large food bag so they didn't starve to death, but they were neglected. They're remarkably resilient though." Lucian is an incredibly soft, black Maine Coon Mix boy with beautiful green eyes. The vet estimates him to be approximately 5 years old. Lucian is the smaller of the two cats, though still somewhat on the large side at 11.4 pounds plus lots of fluff. He is the more sensitive and easily frightened one, though he is also loving and affectionate once he learns to trust you. He "talks" to you, and his toys/"prey" (LOL), with the most adorable twitter! Lucian has a fun-loving, playful, goofy side. He twitters/trills as he plays, greets you and while anticipating meals. His favorite toy is a laser pointer. He also loves interactive toys he can play with you. He loves to hide, run, and play under area rugs. That's right - UNDER! It is hilarious! Bertie will sometimes join him. As funny as this is it also could be a trip hazard, so these boys may not be for a home with someone disabled or elderly where tripping is of specific concern. Another option such as a cat Ripple Rug is highly recommended, as well as kitty tunnels. Lucian also prefers to be covered when in a carrier - he will burrow under the mat if nothing else is available. It has become clear that Lucian does not do well with change and needs a very quiet, low-activity, low-stress home with very patient gentle adopter(s) who are willing to provide the calm consistent environment that he needs. When moved to their foster home, Lucian hid most of the time for weeks! His tendency to appear timid/shy/aloof, frightened, and insecure seems to be based on anxiety issues. Pheromone and calming aides need to be used when traveling, transitioning, or any changes are going on in the household. Their Original Finder said that when preparing to come to their foster home both cats were extremely difficult to get into carriers and that they were quite upset about it. They then traveled quite a distance in the car. Lucian seemed particularly traumatized by that whole experience - on top of all they had been through prior. Sadly, he has difficulty trusting new humans and needs a tremendous amount of patience, loving persistence and routine to rebuild his sense of security. Once he feels safe and secure he comes out of his shell and it's like he's a whole new cat. Once you win Lucian over you will have a friend for life! Bertie and Lucian would do best as the only two pets in the household. No children nor dogs. Nothing noisy nor unpredictable. Their home should not have drop ceilings anywhere (see also Bertie's profile). Lucian should have plenty of safe "cave dweller" type places to hide, both low and high, where you can still reach him when necessary. At the same time, Lucian's ideal home should provide ample space and opportunity to run, get his zoomies on, and play to his heart's content. To summarize, HE should be the noisiest most active thing in the household, LOL! In their foster home, they've learned to overcome food insecurities and gradually build up to a healthy weight. Both can be quite picky when it comes to food, which seems odd for what they've been through. It took an extra long time to find foods they would eat consistently and gradually get them to eat an appropriate amount after nearly starving. If they don't like the food, they will not eat enough. Potential adopters should be willing to keep them on a high-quality, no-kibble, diet such as all-wet food in a healthy variety of meat sources. Any additions or changes to their diet must be very gradual.
