(For more pics, visit nr2r.petfinder.com or www.RoadtoRescueLA.org)   INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK:    http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Whitebeard (male) Intake date:  4/14/2024   Maltese DOB 12/9/2012 9.12 pounds Adoption fee:  $100, which includes vetting, microchip Good with other dogs:  yes Cats:  unknown – we do not have cats to be able to test Vetting and other:  altered (spayed/neutered), up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, fecal negative, dental performed (14 extractions), on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, microchipped Health issues:  none found. Temperament:  very sweet, timid, submissive, shy, has not had much human contact while in breeder life;   needs home committed to bringing the light back to his eyes. Energy level:  low Groom needs:  High;  requires regular professional grooming, along with intermittent brushing to avoid matting Biography:  Whitebeard came in with eight other dogs as breeder releases.  Whitebeard has spent his entire life as a breeder dog and his new chapter began the day we took him in.   Whitebeard is very shy and timid.  It’s likely he’s not had much human contact in his life but that changed the day he came to us.  What we have found over the years with dogs like Whitebeard is that once they get in a home with one person who is committed to their happiness and enriching their life, these dogs come out of their shells.  He may never be one to give you kisses but we believe he will begin to snuggle and want to be near you.  We see it time and time again with breeder dogs.  Even some of our own volunteers have adopted dogs like Whitebeard and we see what happens once they are in a home but it does take time and patience.  Below is a paragraph to help you understand breeder dogs:   (This may or may not be typical of this particular dog.)   Some retired breeder dogs or dogs that have come from a hoard situation are different than your typical dog that have grown up in a home.  Many don’t understand human affection, touch, handling or even being picked up.  Some may have only been picked up by the nape of the neck as you would lift a puppy.   They typically don’t understand a leash or the sights and sounds of a home.   Many have spent their entire lives in a kennel and/or in a nasty environment and many have only lived outdoors.  They are used to eating, sleeping, defecating and urinating in their kennel or wherever.  In some breeder operations, the dogs are hosed down while in their kennels.  Many breeder dogs spin when anxious, nervous, afraid or even happy because they are used to being only in a kennel with limited mobility.  It may take months or years before they can overcome their past.  In some cases, they really never do… but they can learn to accept your love and affection.  If you love doggie kisses, you may never get one… but you can teach them to kiss by offering a treat for a kiss.   These dogs aren’t broken, they just need someone with a big enough heart, the time, the patience and enough compassion to help them navigate their new world.  These dogs are not for everyone and it’s important to us that we find them the RIGHT home, not just a home.   If you think you can help Whitebeard and change his life, we welcome your application.   **IMPORTANT NOTES** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule.   *Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing.  There is no exception to this rule!   *PREDATORS:    IF THIS DOG IS UNDER 10 POUNDS, the dog is to be monitored and protected when outside at all times!  PREDATOR-THREAT IS A REAL DANGER!  For example, a hawk tried to pick up a Chihuahua owned by a friend visiting Ninna’s house… RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE VISITOR.  Thankfully the visitor was watching the dog and the hawk was wrestled off of the Chihuahua but it did require an ER visit and she is was very lucky to survive.   TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!     *NO SMALL CHILDREN!!  As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended.   Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children.  KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL!  Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.    *HOUSETRAINING:  We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained.   While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night.  Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home.  Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.    *KENNELING:  We always recommend kenneling when you cannot supervise your dog.  This helps with housetraining and any destructive tendencies until you get to know your knew addition.   *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome.  Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate.   *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.   Other notes:  This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La.  We are 501c3 non-profit organization.  Our mission is to rescue primarily small-breed dogs and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes.    DOG APPLICATION LINK:   http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal.  We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application.  The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered.  We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply. Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption NOR does it guarantee the adoption. Temperament:  very sweet, social and friendly Energy level:  medium Groom needs:  High;  requires regular professional grooming, along with intermittent brushing to avoid matting Biography:   Bluegrass came in with Disco.  What a story.  We were tagged on a photo on Facebook about these two when they were posted as needing a new home when their elderly owner couldn't care for them any longer.  After speaking with the owner, we agreed to take them in.  The lady didn't want to give them up right away so we agreed to take them in a week from our discussion, holding spots for them.  (We don’t typically hold spots that long but we felt bad for the lady and wanted to help and she wanted a little more time with them so we agreed.)  We were contacted the morning they were supposed to come in that the owner gave them away.  (sigh) The following day, a woman shows up at our rescue with the two dogs.  The woman is on a walker.  She said she was given the dogs by the owner.  She realized she couldn't care for them and heard we'd take them in.  We took them in.  Bluegrass and Disco are sweet dogs.  We are willing to adopt them out together or separate.  (Keep in mind, most people don’t want two dogs… and keeping them together will only keep them from being adopted.  We will give first consideration to anyone willing to adopt them both.)  They both could use a groom.  They are not matted but their coats are a bit unkempt.  We cleaned up Bluegrass’ face a bit and brushed out his ears and tail and he did fine so grooming shouldn’t be an issue at all.  He’s a sweet boy looking for his furever home.  If that’s you, we welcome your application! Story
Hello, dear friends! My name is Sully, and I'm on a mission to find my forever home. I may be a Maltese senior pup, but let me tell you, age is just a number, and my heart is as young and vibrant as ever. I was found off of Providence road, and despite life's twists and turns, I'm ready for a new chapter filled with love and companionship. Now, I'll be honest with you – my vision isn't what it used to be. It's not a hurdle, though. I might not see everything crystal clear, but I see the beauty in every moment, and I'm ready to embrace it with open paws. My friendly demeanor knows no bounds, and I absolutely adore getting attention. Belly rubs, ear scratches, you name it – I'm all in for the love. I've been described as an easy-going dog, and I believe in the simple joys of life. What more could a senior pup like me ask for than to live out my golden years in a loving home? I've got so much love to give, and I'm searching for that special someone who can appreciate the wisdom and warmth that comes with a senior companion. If you're looking for a furry friend who's mastered the art of love and companionship, then it's me, Sully! Don't let my senior status fool you; I've got plenty of love left to share. If you're interested in making my twilight years the best they can be, go ahead and apply or send a message today. I can't wait to meet you and start this heartwarming journey together. Let's create a home filled with love, warmth, and the joy of having a senior pup by your side!April 28, 2024, 11:27 am
