(For more pics, visit nr2r.petfinder.com or www.RoadtoRescueLA.org) INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK:     http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Winterthur (male) Intake date:  10/19/2026 Maltese 4 years old Intake weight:  9.4 pounds Adoption fee:  $275, which includes vetting, microchip   Good with other dogs:  yes Cats:  yes, they also lived with cats   Vetting and other:  altered (neutered), up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, fecal negative, treated for ear mites and ear hair plucked, on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, professional groom, microchipped   Health issues:  none observed.   Temperament:  a little shy at first, very sweet, social, friendly once comfy - great little temperament.   Energy level:  medium   Groom needs:  high maintenance;  requires regular professional grooming, along with intermittent brushing to avoid matting   Biography:   (Note:  Winterthur is the daddy to the puppies we took in and we were told he is the daddy to many of the puppies born in the home.)   We took in thirteen dogs (10 dogs and 3 puppies) from animal control after they were seized due to neglect.  They all had ear mites and fleas and none were spayed or neutered.   All the dogs are friendly.  Some are shier than others.  We don't believe they had a lot of handling because when we pick them up, they stiffen up... some more than others.  They lived in individual pet carriers much of their life.  We are thankful they are out of that situation and now can go on to lead happy, healthy lives with new families.  Since we have so many that all pretty much look alike, we are posting them in batches.  YOU MUST APPLY for a specific dog.  Because these dogs will be popular, you can't just apply for "a Maltese".  If you're approved and the one you applied for is reserved... we'll advise you which ones are left and you can choose from the remaining.  Their personalities are virtually all the same.  The only differences may be the weight and age... which are all very close as well.   **WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule.   *Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing and the dog is over 15 pounds.  There is no exception to this rule! NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 10/16/2026:  Dovie - female - approx DOB 9/8/2026 - 1.14 pounds - Maltese Reason for intake:  Dovie and her sibling, Bixie, are more pulls from animal control from the recent hoard situation.  The mother had to stay until they finalize the legal issues.  These pups are eating on their own.  Stay tuned. NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 10/14/2026:  Zurich - female - approx 3 years old - 8.0 pounds - Maltese Reason for intake:  We took in six dogs from animal control after they were seized due to neglect. They all had ear mites and flea dirt.  As we were plucking their ears, we could tell it felt so good as they all moaned and were trying to scratch at their ears.  It's surprising none of them had infected ears but thank goodness they didn't.  Anyway, they are all going to our groomer and the vet to get everything they need and then we'll post them for adoption. We may be getting more from this situation and we'll post if and when we do.
