Story
Jack is a handsome 12-year old male Bulldog who was surrendered by his original owner on August 2, 2023 because he/she was unable to contain him. Jack has a tan-and-white short smooth coat, a tiny docked tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with black shading around his eyes, a black button nose on his cute muzzle, and short floppy ears. His original owner told us that Jack was good with other dogs, but we've learned that he is selective about the dogs he gets along with. Jack does NOT do well with cats and should not be placed in a home with cats or where he would have any contact with them. Jack has had encounters in the past which did not end well for the cat(s). Jack loves his people friends and would love to find a home where he could be an 'only child'. Jack has been kept indoors and is house-trained. This sweet guy defies his chronological age and he obviously believes that 'age is just a number' .. Jack was full of playful energy when HSOV Kennel Tech Rachel Elizabeth accompanied him for updated photos on April 1st 2024. Jack loved attention from Rachel while showing off his personality and physique. Jack weighs 60 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash. Jack has already been neutered, so he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application. He could also be fostered with an approved HSOV Adoption/Foster application. Update: Jack was adopted on July 5, 2024 but came back to our shelter in mid-August 2024 since he did not get along with the family's dog. Jack is now a 14-year old 'senior citizen'. Jack would love to find a home with someone special where he could spend his golden years as an 'only child'. Jack went home with a foster family on August 16, 2025 so that he could enjoy a real home environment instead of spending his days/nights alone in a small shelter kennel. Jack is still available for adoption and would love to find a forever home where he could spend his golden years being spoiled 24/7 by a special someone.

Story
Carrie (aka Bullit) is a beautiful 2-1/2 year old female American Bulldog mix who was surrendered by her family on January 3, 2026. Carrie has a tan short smooth coat with a large white bib on her chest, rather short legs with white paws on her front bowed legs, a long tail, and an adorable tan/white face with brown 'teddy bear' eyes, a milk chocolate/blue nose, and short semi-erect ears. Her family told us that Carrie is very affectionate and loves attention. She does best with women and tends to be protective of her 'person' .. But Carrie is not protective of her food. Carrie has been kept indoors and is housetrained. Carrie is selective about which dogs she accepts into her circle of friends. Carrie is frightened of thunder/loud noises.. And she sees an open door as an opportunity to take an adventurous run. Carrie weighs approximately 40-45 lbs. She is great on a leash and loves to take walks. This little beauty may look familiar to many of our HSOV Volunteers/Facebook fans since Carrie originally came to our shelter in early October 2024 after she had been in the Little Hocking Ohio area for at least a month and was befriended by several compassionate individuals who were very worried about her safety. Those kind ladies banded together to keep her safe (and to make sure she had food/water) .. with the end goal of gaining her trust and letting them rescue her. She was nearly apprehended several times but was a bit too wary/cautious and would quickly go into flight mode. But those ladies were very patient (and determined) to take her into 'custody' but also used good common sense/judgment. The Good Samaritans who had admired Carrie from afar were eventually able to get close to her (thanks to their own dogs whom Carrie befriended) and were gradually able to pet her. They reported that Carrie absolutely loved other dogs as well as children ... And neighbors who had kept an eye out for sightings of Carrie reported that she appeared to be ok with cats and never made any attempt to chase/harm them. As might be expected, Carrie is an escape artist who can easily find a way to slip away from a fenced-in backyard. Their patience paid off and one of the Good Samaritans was able to persuade this little waif into jumping in her car on October 3rd (with the assistance of her dog who made friends with Carrie and must have signaled that she was safe with them). Contact was made with the Sheriff's Department who provided transport to our shelter where our HSOV Kennel Techs continued to give her the care and love that she deserved. These photos of Carrie were taken on the afternoon on October 4, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver accompanied her for outdoor photos. This little sweetheart had a super-sweet disposition and loved attention more than anything else in the world. Carrie weighs 41 lbs but doesn't have the appearance of a very large dog when you see her in person. She is rather short and full-figured (meant in the most complimentary way since she is simply perfect). She doesn't appear to have had any leash training but with a little encouragement from Emily Beaver, Carrie had the courage to walk outdoors for her photo session. She was reluctant to walk back to the shelter on a leash, but she was very happy to be carried back indoor Emily's arms like a very big baby. If you look closely at several of those pictures, Carrie was giving Emily some terrific 'puppy kisses'. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Carrie was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Since Carrie was not reclaimed, she went home with a foster family on October 7, 2024. Carrie was spayed on October 17, 2024, and she was officially adopted by her foster family on November 18, 2024. We look forward to taking updated photos Carrie as weather permits ... But we wanted to share her previous pictures and background story asap so that potential adopters would know that Carrie (aka Bullit) is in our shelter and is looking for another great home. Her family was very sad to have to return Carrie and has sponsored her adoption fee in hopes that she will quickly find another loving home.
