Story
Meet Charlie! This adorable little mini Dachshund has come an incredibly long way and is now searching for a very special home that understands that sometimes the sweetest hearts take a little extra time to bloom. When Charlie came to us, he had experienced very little of the world. Basic experiences that many dogs take for granted simply were not part of his life. He had little exposure to handling, socialization, and everyday interactions. Since arriving in rescue, Charlie has been working hard learning that people can be safe, gentle, and kind. Underneath that uncertainty lives an incredibly sweet little soul. Once Charlie feels comfortable and begins to trust you, you start to see his true personality shine through. He becomes playful, happy, snuggly, and full of those silly little Dachshund moments that make people fall in love with the breed. He absolutely loves running around a fenced yard, zooming with excitement, and enjoying life with his favorite friends. Because of his background, Charlie needs an adopter who understands that trust is not built overnight. He is looking for someone patient, calm, and willing to let him move at his own pace. Charlie is not a “plug and play” dog and would not be a good fit for a first-time dog owner. Dachshunds are known for being incredibly loyal, intelligent, funny, and full of personality, but they are also famously independent and stubborn little thinkers. They often form deep bonds with their people and thrive when given consistency, structure, and understanding. Charlie and his best buddy Cooper share a very special bond. They play together constantly, help build confidence in one another, and genuinely seem happiest with each other nearby. We will consider separating them for the right home; however, we truly believe Charlie would do best either adopted with Cooper or placed into a home with another very friendly, confident, and understanding dog that can help provide comfort and guidance. As an added bonus, if a family chooses to adopt both boys together, we will waive the adoption fee on one dog, meaning you can welcome two best friends home for the cost of one adoption fee. For the right person, Charlie is going to be an incredibly rewarding companion. He simply needs someone willing to see beyond the nervous beginning and give him the patience and time he deserves. Hidden beneath those little legs and cute face is a sweet heart waiting for someone to show him that the world really can be a wonderful place. Once completed, the adoption is finalized. Each adoption includes a 6-week group obedience class (a $125 value). If adopting a puppy under 6 months of age, we cover the cost of spay/neuter at the appropriate time. Paws-in-Prison dogs are not available for adoption until they complete their training program.
