Story
Sweet Pete—lovingly called Sweets—will be 3 years old in March, and he’s quietly hoping his next home will be the one where he finally feels safe enough to exhale. This 12-pound, neutered, crate-trained little guy came to CCR not because he isn’t loved, but because he needs more security, consistency, and reassurance than he’s had before. What he wants most is a calm, stable home and a person who will be his. Once Sweet Pete trusts you, he gives his whole heart. He lives for cuddles, snuggling close, and simply being near his person after a good round of outdoor play. He enjoys exercise and then happily settles in, content just to hang out and be loved. He’s also a wonderful travel companion—great on short trips and long rides alike—and never turns down a pup cup along the way. Sweet Pete will alert bark at unfamiliar noises or strangers, but he isn’t a constant yapper. He walks nicely on a leash and would benefit from continued work on recall. He’s spent lots of time at doggy daycare and enjoys playful interactions with dogs his own size. He hasn’t been around cats yet, so a cat-free home or careful introductions would be best. Because of his past, Sweet Pete can be anxious around men and small children, and those situations can feel overwhelming for him. He would truly thrive in a quieter, adult-only home—ideally with someone who is home often—where patience, routine, and kindness help him continue to build confidence. When he feels safe and happy, his joy bursts out in the form of full-speed zoomies and impressive jumps that show off his athletic little body and happy heart. Sweet Pete is up to date on vaccinations and ready for a fresh start. He’s not asking for much—just a gentle, understanding home where love is steady and trust can grow. In return, he’ll offer deep devotion, endless affection, and the kind of bond that makes all the waiting worth it.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue is you are interested.  Let us know where you live!  We are in Tennessee but we adopt outside the state as well and transport.   Contact us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 20, 2025, 12:12 am

Please contact Mamie Hall (mamie.hall@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet. She's the cherry on top! CHERRY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Cherry and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (10/19) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church, VA (6100A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)!     Name: Cherry         Best Guess for Breed:  Min pin mix  Best Guess for Age: 6 years as of October 2024       SEX: Female   Approximate Weight: 12 lbs   Gets Along With:   Large dogs! She hasn't lived with cats that we know of, but she has tried to chase outdoor cats. She hasn't lived with kids as far as we are aware. We are happy to discuss integration techniques with potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   DC foster home   About Cherry: This sweetie with the incredible ears was abandoned and ended up in a shelter in Texas. She immediately closed that chapter with a bang and eagerly jumped into her next one - a shelter foster home in Texas. Her Texas foster described her as energetic, always liking to move around -  hey she may be 6 or so but small dogs' batteries last a LONG time and she's ready to go! She loves walks, loves car rides. She lived with a 80-pound poodle in that foster home and did well with him. She knows the command 'come' and when called, will come right away.   And she was just so loving, so happy to be with her Texas foster. Her foster said she's the type who does well with a lot of attention, a lot of time with her humans.  What she wants most of all is to be safe and loved for all her days. In exchange, you get a happy, loving, active little girl eager to trot by your side and then curl up against your lap. What do you say? Is Cherry the one for your home and your heart? What My DC Area Foster Says About Me:  Cherry loves walks - really LOVES walks and sniffing. But she can chill too - she's curled up on a dog bed at my feet as I type this. She's confident in the home - she walked in like she'd been here all her life. And she utterly loves being next to me, getting pets.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and transport from the shelter. LeeJu is now more than ready for a furever home! • Personality: Friendly, Curious, Cautious LeeJu is such a friendly and lovable pup with a curious and cautious personality. Her energy level is mid-low as she mostly chills in a kennel at home and prefers to have light walkies mainly for the bathroom. • Affinity with - Dogs: Super friendly with other dogs as long as they are not too large or aggressive. She got better at car rides.
