Story
Introducing Tootsie from our Sweet Temptations litter: 14 weeks old, 9 pounds, and roughly the size of a Great Pyrenees’ left elbow .We usually deal with Great Pyrenees. Tootsie weighs less than the fluff we brush out of one. We keep looking at these tiny babies and wondering, what are we supposed to do with you? Put you in a purse? There is one practical advantage to her size I guess: if your household already has a resident polar bear, Tootsie could probably curl up beneath all that fluff before your partner notices there’s another dog. “Is that a puppy?” “No, dear, that’s just his foot.” We’re estimating she’ll stay around or under 30 pounds as an adult, if she even gets that big. Could she have a surprise 1% Great Dane in there and grow into a horse? We don’t see it happening. Can we guarantee it? We have just admitted we considered a purse as a housing option, so please don’t ask us to predict genetics. 👉 Apply to adopt Tootsie: https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app 📍Tootsie is being fostered in Hutchinson, KS. Her adopter must personally pick her up there. We do not transport. Tootsie loves other dogs. She is thrilled to have siblings around and approaches playtime with the confidence of someone who has never once worried about being too small for the group activity. If everyone is running, Tootsie is running. If someone finds a toy, Tootsie would like to see it. If the dogs are taking a break, she may need a moment to understand why the meeting has been adjourned. She would enjoy having another playful dog in her forever home, but what matters most is that her people are ready to give her plenty of company, activity, and chances to have fun. Cats are unknown. Tootsie has not lived with them in her foster home, so we cannot promise a lifelong friendship with a creature whose feet come equipped with knives. Given her curious, playful personality, we can picture Tootsie trotting up to a cat with an enthusiastic invitation to play, only to be informed that the cat is not accepting visitors, has never accepted visitors, and would like to know who authorized this meeting. Tootsie would probably give the cat a little space and try again later. Maybe the cat was busy. Maybe it prefers a different toy. She would have no reason to assume this was a permanent rejection of her friendship. Children are also unknown because she has not been around kids in foster care. Tootsie’s sweetness and love of play suggest she might enjoy little humans who want to be her friends. Still, she is only nine pounds, and even a puppy with a big personality needs children who will handle her gently, let her rest, and understand that she is a living baby dog rather than a toy with unusually realistic sound effects. Tootsie has not had much opportunity to meet new people yet, either. Her foster thinks she would likely be happy and excited, which fits the puppy they know: cheerful, affectionate, and generally delighted to discover that the world contains more potential friends. We can picture her trotting over to investigate a visitor, accepting some love, and then hurrying away to find a toy worth showing them. Tootsie is an 8 out of 10 on the energy scale, which seems ambitious for a dog whose entire body weighs less than some of our other rescue dogs' heads. She loves toys, loves exploring, and loves playing with everyone. She does not currently play fetch. From Tootsie’s perspective, if you wanted the toy nearby, throwing it across the room was a strange decision and one you should probably fix yourself. Water play is another activity she has declined. She has no objection to fun; she simply sees no reason that fun needs to involve getting her fluffy little self wet. Her foster thinks she could be happy going on adventures or spending time at home. Tootsie has not committed to either lifestyle. As long as there is enough exercise, play, and something interesting happening with her people, she is ready to participate. She is a very sweet girl who likes affection, although she is not much of a settle-down-and-cuddle puppy just yet. She has places to go, people to play with, and corners of the room that may have changed since she last checked them. Tootsie might pause long enough to enjoy your hand against her fur, then bounce away because a sibling has done something that looks suspiciously fun. It is not that she has no love to give. She has plenty. She is simply fourteen weeks old, and the world is so fascinating that she has not learned to put it on pause. Tootsie has no known fears or dramatic overreactions. She has not been staging protests over household noises or treating ordinary events as signs of impending doom. Her general outlook is wonderfully sunny: dogs are fun, toys are fun, people probably will be fun, and there is almost certainly something worth investigating in the next room. She is a casual barker, offering the occasional comment without feeling the need to narrate every movement in the house. She has not shown escape-artist tendencies, inappropriate chewing, or other notable mischief. We would still recommend keeping a sensible eye on her; she is a puppy, and the fact that she has not yet developed an interest in your favorite shoe does not mean the shoe is legally protected. A securely fenced yard would give Tootsie room to play, but her foster believes she could also do well without one if she gets regular exercise. She has not started leash walking yet, so her family will need to teach her that a walk involves moving with the human, even when a leaf, a smell, and an interesting crack in the sidewalk are all requesting separate appointments. Getting into the car also requires help because, to Tootsie, the doorway might as well be halfway up a cliff. he does not know any commands yet and is not potty trained. At fourteen weeks old, she is still waiting for someone to explain where the bathroom is and why “I was busy playing” is apparently not an acceptable excuse. Tootsie’s ideal home is any loving home ready for a happy, energetic puppy. She needs people who will play with her, guide her, give her exercise, and enjoy her for the lively little soul she is—not expect her to be a quiet handbag accessory simply because she happens to fit beneath a Great Pyrenees. She has puppy manners to learn and a whole world to explore. She will need patience, consistency, and people willing to laugh with her through the process. Tootsie may be small enough to hide beneath a Great Pyrenees today, but she has everything she needs to become someone’s whole world. If you’re ready to give this tiny sweetheart a forever home, fill out an adoption application at: https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app Yes, the entire application. Not half of it. Not a comment saying, “Interested.” Not a message explaining that you have already picked out a purse and therefore consider yourself prepared. Once submitted, we can send your application to Tootsie’s foster family, who will help decide whether you are the right person to guide this little party through puppyhood. If approved, you will need to pick her up in person. Tootsie will not be shipped, delivered, teleported, or mailed in a box labeled “extra fluff.”

Story
I'm Holly and I am a character! I am being fostered in Illinois. I'm 2–3 years old and all puppy. I am probably a poodle/bichon mix. I have long legs like a poodle and a light tan/apricot color. When I was rescued I was kind of a mess. I was really underweight but I eat really well and am at my desired weight now. My hair was a mess and most had to be shaved down but has grown back beautifully. I've been known to get into mischief. (Like taking things that aren't mine if they are left in my reach.) I am a very active and loving girl. I'll be in your lap as soon as you sit and I'll be right next to you all night. And I LOVE giving kisses. We are working on house training. I learned to use the doggie door, so I'm probably pretty smart. I'm in a home with other dogs and I get along great with them and want to play nearly all the time. It is an absolute requirement that I have a companion young enough to play with me. I have lots of love to give! I will require a home with a small, young, energetic resident dog already in place. Children in the home must be at least 10 years old. These requirements are not flexible, as they are essential to ensuring that I transition safely, adjust successfully, and thrive in my new environment. I'm located in IL.
