Story
Say hello to Fozzie Bear (aka Fuzz Bucket or FB), a fuzzy half sheep, half muppet dog who’s 95 percent the sweetest boy and 5 percent a spicy little turd. Fozzie is about 8.5 years old and around 10 pounds, and we think he’s probably a Poodle mix of some kind (maybe Poodle-Shih Tzu?). He came into rescue after his owner passed away. Fozzie is mostly a typical dog who loves to go on walks and play with toys. He enjoys running around in the yard, but a home without a fenced yard wouldn’t be a deal-breaker as long as he got enough on-leash time outside. He seems to be fully house trained and hasn’t had a single accident in his foster home. What he needs more than anything is a home with patience. Fozzie’s biggest challenge is that he’s got some guarding behaviors, so he can get a little snippy under specific circumstances, like when he’s laying next to one person on the couch, and another person tries to pet him or get him off the couch. His evil twin also sometimes shows up at the groomer or the vet, and occasionally around food if other dogs enter his personal space. His little outbursts are relatively few and far between as long as he stays on his medications (fluoxetine and trazodone), and outside of the occasional tiff with the house dogs, he’s done pretty well with all of them. He desperately wants to be friends with the house Chihuahua, but she’s also a bit of a turd and so that hasn’t worked out so well for Fozzie. She’s toothless and still manages to boss him around somehow. Despite his imperfections, Fozzie is a wonderful little dog with a ton of love to give. Here’s what we think he needs in a new home to be successful: - An adult-only home. We think children won’t have the maturity to understand that dogs are allowed to have boundaries, too. - A home where someone is around most of the time. Fozzie can be an insecure little fella, and being alone too long stresses him out. He’s never been destructive in any way, even with run of the house, but he’s not the kind of dog who would be happy or comfortable being home alone for 8 or 10 hours several days a week. - A home with dog experience that is willing to work with and around his quirks. Fozzie and his previous owner worked very successfully with a trainer, so he’s definitely trainable. His foster mom and dad have found him totally manageable! - A home without other dogs OR with other dogs his size. We could see his mouth writing checks his butt can’t cash with larger dogs. If there are other dogs in the home, intros should be slow, and ideally, he could be kept somewhere separate while the humans are away just in case. If you love cute, curly little dogs and are ready for the most rewarding challenge ever, Fozzie Bear is your man! ———————————————————- The adoption donation for Fozzie Bear is $250. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines and on flea/tick/heartworm prevention (age appropriate). If you would like to meet this dog, you must have an approved application on file and be willing to travel to the Mahoning County/Columbiana County, Ohio area for a meet and greet. All of our dogs reside in foster homes. We do not have a physical shelter. Applications will be reviewed/approved and each dog will be placed in the home that can best meet their individual need. If you live in a residence with a Homeowner’s Association (HOA) please make sure you check that the dog you are interested in does not violate size or breed restrictions. A successful adoption is our goal. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption of any dog. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Wesley has an undeniably cute appearance, but he is a very special dog who will need a very special home.     He originally came from a hoarding environment and was never exposed to human touch or much human interaction of any kind.  After being rescued from that situation,  he spent time in the local humane shelter before being adopted by an older couple.  He lived with them for several years, but they were not able to overcome his aversion to being touched, much less handled, by people.  Sadly, they passed away and he had to go back to the human organization.  He was unlikely to ever be adopted from there, given his untrusting nature.  One of our foster moms realized that living for the rest of his life in a shelter was no life for any dog, and even if he couldn’t become a pet who loved to snuggle with his people, he at least deserved to lay in a soft bed and be able to run in a yard.  And so he became a Rose’s Rescue foster dog.     Wesley is as good of a boy as he knows how to be.  He is housebroken, and doesn’t need to be crated while his foster mom isn’t home.  He doesn’t want to be touched, but will easily take treats from her hand, flows her around the house throughout the day, and wants to sleep in a dog bed right next to hers at night.  He loves the permanent dog resident there - she, too, came from a hoarder and is easily frightened.  It seems that they are kindred spirits.  He has also gotten along well with other foster dogs that have come and gone in the home over the months he’s been there.  We have no idea how he would react to a cat.     Wesley drags a very lightweight leash attached to his collar all of the time.  Without it, it would be extremely difficult to manage getting him in a certain place - like in the car to got to the vet or groomer, for instance, since he will try to run away from you if approached.  He does have a bite history when being cornered and then forcibly handled.  His drag leash alleviates that potential stressful situation.     That said, he has been going to the same groomer at the humane shelter in Youngstown since first being rescued from the hoarder.  He has become very used to her over the years and allows her to do whatever she needs to do to bathe, dry, and clipper him, including his nails. His foster mom has been able to do things like change or adjust his collar or wipe off his coat if he gets into something dirty in the yard.  She just has to use the drag leash to get him where he needs to be without being able to run away, and then work gently and slowly with him.     When he is really, really scared (like during a thunderstorm) Wesley will jump up on the couch to be close to his foster mom.  Has learned to trust her and love her in his own way, as best as he can, but he just doesn’t like to be touched.  Of course, we will continue to work with him, but some dogs like Wesley don’t come around completely.  Any potential adopter must be willing to accept him as he is, in case he is one of those cases that can’t progress to becoming the kind of pet that most other dogs are.   Wesley is a hard case, though no fault of his own.  We realize there aren’t many people who want to adopt a dog who hates to be petted or touched.  But we also believe that he can’t help the situation he came from that made him who he is, and he deserves a happy life as much as any other dog, maybe even more.     It would also be helpful if an adopter lived close enough to Youngstown so that the groomer that he’s used to would be able to continue to groom him every couple of months.  His breed is our best guess, btw.  He’s definitely a poodle mix of sorts.  Given his coloring, size, and body type, Westie was our best guess as to his other heritage.     Wesley is what we sometimes call a “project dog.”  He’s definitely not one that many people could take on, but for someone that does, every little accomplishment he makes is a huge milestone.  The rewards for being a part of that kind of journey can be tremendous.  In many ways, he’s an easy dog to have around - he doesn’t require much, he’s well-behaved, gets along with others of his kind, and overall is pretty independent.     If there’s something about Wesley or his story that speaks to you, and you feel you are ready, willing and able to bring him into your life, we’d love to have you fill out an application to adopt him!  A human failed him long ago, but we hope there’s a human out there who is willing to accept him for who he is and still give him a chance at a happy ever after.     You can easily fill out an adoption application by clicking here: adoption application .     For those viewing on Petfinder, if you are interested in adopting this animal please click on More About Rose's Rescue, you may fill out adoption application from there. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lynnie now has an adoption pending and we hope she will be moving on to her forever hime soon!  Any applications for her would be for back up consideration only   Thank you! Lynnie needs a gentle, loving, and understanding home if ever a dog did.  We wish we knew more about her past, but it was probably less than ideal.  She was a stray on the run for weeks on the south side of Youngstown, evading capture until she was ultimately hit by a car.  One of her rear legs was broken in several places and had to be removed as a result.  But the good news is, she gets around just fine, thank you very much!  She goes in and out of the double-flapped dog door in her foster home as easily as any of her four-legged cohorts. She loves, loves, loves to sit out in the porch and watch the world go by.     Inside, she’s a good girl, too.  She gets crated when her foster mom is away, and usually can’t get to her crate fast enough in anticipation of a yummy treat!  She’s housebroken, and sleeps on a dog pillow next to her foster mom’s bed at night.     Lynnie is wicked smart - she learned how to use that dog door much more quickly and easily than most other foster dogs.  And speaking of other dogs - she loves them!  She has even gotten her foster brother (dog, not human) to exhibit play behavior for the first time ever.  No other foster dog has been able to do that.  Lynnie’s would really benefit from having a happy, confident dog sibling in her forever home.    Her challenges are that she gets very afraid in the car, and sometimes has accidents there.  She also has gotten car sick.  We’re not sure if that’s because her tummy gets all upset because of the fear part of it or if it’s a separate thing due to the motion.  Her foster mom is working on this.     She also will bark at sudden movements and noises.  (She’d make an excellent watchdog!) It’s not a continuous barking; she stops right away, and also appears to feel very sorry for having barked at things that shouldn’t have prompted it, and even will self-discipline herself by going to her room and laying in her pillow.  We suspect she was harshly scolded or worse by her previous owner and we don’t ever want her to fear such repercussions again.    We can see hesitation in her when it comes to asking for affection.  We suspect it may be because she wasn’t treated well by her precious owners.  It’s almost like she craves being loved but doesn’t think she’s worthy of it.    Well, we sure think she is, and we are hoping to find her a new human or two who will think so too!   Lynnie is all or mostly poodle, and will need regular trips to the groomer.  Potential adopters should be prepared for that additional expense.  We’re looking forward to her first grooming session since she’s been with us which will happen soon! You can easily fill out an adoption application by clicking here:    adoption application.   For anyone viewing this on Petfinder, if you are interested in adopting this animal you will need to go to our website www.rosesrescue.net to fill out the online adoption application.
