Story
Meet Chili! 🌶️❤️ This tiny 6-pound, 10+ year old Yorkie is as sweet and snuggly as they come. Chili’s whole world changed when his owner had to move into assisted living, and sadly no family members could take him. Now he’s hoping for a loving foster or forever home where he can feel safe and cherished again. Chili is a gentle little soul who loves to be held and adored. He’s great with other dogs and would be perfectly happy to share his home with a calm companion. He has a cataract in one eye, but it doesn’t slow him down or dampen his sweet personality. He’ll also be getting a dental cleaning when he’s neutered to help him feel his very best. If you have room in your heart for a senior sweetheart, Chili would love nothing more than to be someone’s treasured companion again.

Story
HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age. Because of this, she may struggle with new situations, may show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, may need help understanding leashes, and will need patience and structure with housetraining - Curious and interested in people, but is still getting used to the idea of being touched and tends to be pretty shy about that; her foster family said she will approach and sniff both them and visitors and will sometimes eat out of their hands - Does want to be with her foster family and will follow them around - Has gotten much more comfortable with being picked up, but will still need some patient work with that - Comfortable walking on softer surfaces, like carpet and blankets, but she's unsure of the hardwood floors in her foster home right now - Has done best with a helper dog when it comes to confidence-building and learning how to be a dog, so we highly recommend she be adopted into a home with another dog; another small dog has been her "helper dog" in her foster home, and she draws confidence from that dog every day - Has been more comfortable around small dogs vs. large ones so far, but has been able to coexist with the larger dog in her foster home- Still fearful of being outdoors, but she has gradually started following her helper dog out; has not pottied outdoors yet - Does not understand the concept of play yet, although she does watch her helper dog playing with toys - Will likely do best in a calm, predictable home, and may not do well in a busy home with young children.- We don't know her history with cats - Looking for a quiet, patient family - ideally with another dog - who will give her the time and space she needs to grow; it will be very rewarding to watch her continue to gain confidence and experience the good things in life! All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: White Weight: 5.5 Age: 0yrs 7mths 2wks

Story
Popcorn is about 18 lbs., 15 years old and according to Google lens, a West highland terrier. Animal Care Services thought he was a Maltese mix and foster mom thinks he could be a Schnauzer/Maltese mix but knows for sure that he is the cutest scruffy EVER! His journey hasn't been all snuggles and treats as he lived on someone's apartment patio for years, lying in poop, grass and other debris until Animal Care Services came for him and God's Dogs Rescue was able to save the little scamp. While he still loves his humans, other gentle pups his size (cats unknown) and his squishy toys and chewy, understandably he has a few emotional scars especially regarding vet visits and grooming. Slow, patient progress in these areas has helped him be more confident, but will need a patient adopter to help him adapt. Things that make Popcorn super happy are spending time with his humans after he gets to know them, car rides and walks in the park. He loves, loves his squishy toys and generally carries one around with him. His most favorite game is for his person to chase him and pretend to take his squishy away. He also like to run zooms and if there isn't a person to play with he will often throw his toys for himself. Doesn't that just make you want to throw his stuffies so he can play?? He's a healthy guy for his age with just a few old man issues (beginnings of cataracts) that he takes supplements for and should continue taking. His liver enzymes were high when tested but he is on a med to help them normalize. Can you give this boy the right lap to live in?? He needs very patient/knowledgeable adopters, no children- adult only because he will bite if afraid... It is a work in progress but he is becoming the goofy boy he was meant to be while living on the nasty hot and freezing porch for most of his 14 yrs :( GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!! Local adoption only $200 (in TX)
