Story
Meet Tommy, a 4-year old neutered male French Brittany weighing about 35 pounds. Tommy is looking for a quiet home, a confident dog companion, and a heart full of patience. Tommy originally came to NBRAN as part of a large-scale owner surrender. It was immediately clear that he had spent his life outside and had never experienced the "soft life" of an indoor home. Everything—from the sound of a kitchen to the feeling of a gentle human hand—was entirely new to him. But day by day, Tommy is choosing bravery. He is a shy, submissive, and deeply sweet boy whose beautiful, curious personality blooms just a little bit more every single morning. Tommy’s ultimate happy place is the great outdoors. The moment he steps into the backyard, his inner athlete comes alive! At any given moment, you will see him doing joyful full-speed laps and figure-eights around the grass. Because of this, a physically fenced yard will be best. He relies heavily on other dogs to build his confidence. Thanks to the guidance of his foster siblings, Tommy has successfully mastered the art of backyard lounging, walking beautifully on a leash, and figuring out exactly how fun toys can be. He is also a quiet roommate and a stellar car rider who loves to follow his trusted humans from room to room just to keep them in sight. While he loves the companionship, he is not one to seek out pets. So, he will not jump up on your lap and cuddle with you. He is still actively coming out of his shell and we do expect this to change once he is fully comfortable and completely trusts his human. Tommy is now enjoying the softness of his dog bed, and loves to curl up in it. He'll collect all his toys and even other random items, like a pinecone or shoe to stockpile into his bed. He listens though, and will drop the things he is not supposed to have. To help Tommy keep thriving, his forever family must fit a few specific needs: Preferably, a Female-Only Household: Tommy is very afraid of men and requires a quiet, low-traffic environment with a female adopter (or adopters). Because of his skittishness around fast movements, he should not live with young children.  At Least One Resident Dog: Tommy requires a confident canine brother or sister. He copies their behavior to learn how to navigate the human world and needs them around to feel safe. A Patient Routine: Tommy thrives on predictability and needs an owner who can be home more often than not. He is fully crate trained, but he prefers his crate to be in the same room as his people or dog friends. Tommy is making incredible progress with his housebreaking, though he did experience a minor, normal setback due to a recent change in foster homes. He is actively learning, and improving every day. An Important Note for Playtime: Tommy absolutely adores balls and bones! However, he recently underwent a comprehensive dental surgery where 16 teeth were removed. Because of this, he can never have hard bones to chew on. His forever family will need to spoil him exclusively with soft plushies, fabric toys, and rubber balls to protect his healing mouth.  Tommy's trust is a sacred gift that is well worth the wait. If you are ready to move at his pace and show him what a safe, loving home truly feels like, please submit an NBRAN Adoption Application and mention his name. Tommy is ready to show you the true meaning of resilience. Tommy is currently located in NC and is available for transport up to 1400 miles away, with the adopter driving the last 100 or so miles of the journey.   Tommy is heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations.  His adoption fee is $400 to help offset some of his medical costs. Story
Meet Orchid I was found wandering the streets of Cabell County, West Virginia, in mid-June. When my foster mom, who is a rescuer, saw me, she immediately knew I was a French Brittany. I’m mostly white, with beautiful black and liver markings on my paws. She acted quickly and contacted NBRAN to help me find safety. When I arrived, I weighed 44 pounds and was carrying a little too much weight. I also needed some dental work. I’ve since had several teeth removed and a thorough dental cleaning, and I’m now a much healthier 37 pounds. My foster mom adds a little water and a couple of tablespoons of wet food to my meals to make them easier and more enjoyable for me. My foster family already has a Brittany, and she has been a wonderful teacher, showing me all the rules of the house. I’ve settled in beautifully! I’m allowed on the couch, I sleep in bed, and I’m trusted to have free run of the house. My crate door stays open, and I happily go inside when I’m asked—especially when a storm rolls in. It’s become my safe little spot. The vet believes I’m around 8–10 years old. I love going for walks and am a very polite walking companion. Because I have some arthritis in my right leg, I can’t go more than about a mile, but I still enjoy getting out and exploring at my own pace. I absolutely love car rides, and I’ve even spent lots of time camping this summer! I’m perfectly content watching all the animals around me and meeting new people. I’m not food aggressive at all, although I do like to keep a close eye on my foster brother in case he decides to leave anything behind! Because I’m prone to gaining weight, my family will need to keep an eye on my portions and treats. We’ve also discovered that I have allergies. I take one Claritin in the morning and one in the evening as directed by my veterinarian. My foster mom also makes sure to wipe my feet if they get wet. I have the cutest little way of communicating. When I get food or treats—or when I need to go potty—I do a happy little tippity-tap-tap and spin in circles! I don’t bark, but if I need to go outside, I may whimper softly and head toward the door. I know my name, Orchid, which was given to me at the shelter, and I’ve learned quite a few commands: sit, stay, go to couch, down, wait (when a car is coming), okay/go (for walks), and come. Most of all, I’m a total people girl. I don’t just want to be near my humans—I want to be touching them. ❤️ I’m happiest when I’m curled up beside my people, soaking up their love and giving plenty right back. I’m a sweet, gentle, well-mannered girl who has been through a lot and is so grateful to finally be safe. I’m hoping my next chapter is with a forever family who will love me, keep me close, and let me enjoy all the little things that make me happy. I’m Orchid, and I’m ready to find my forever home. Orchid's adoption fee is $350 to offset the vet care Orchid has received. If you are ready to bring this sweet girl into your life, reach out to Leslie Trenta. leslie@leslietrentadesigns.com     August 19, 2026, 6:31 pm

Story
Pete is a 4-year-old Brittany neutered male. He is an endearing quirky boy that is kind, gentle and affectionate. Pete was born with cataracts and was completely blind when he came to NBRAN. A diagnosis and treatment plan that included surgery was quickly decided after an NBRAN volunteer took Pete to an appointment with a doggie ophthalmologist. The surgery was successful and Pete regained his sight.  Even though the surgery was successful, Pete can become fixated on light and shadows. Pete's favorite activity is playing fetch and retrieving the ball.  Like lots of Brittanys, Pete has been known to try and occasionally succeed in eating nonfood items. While Pete is outside, if exposed to items like sticks and acorns, he needs to be watched. But most of the time, he is far too busy joyfully retrieving a ball instead of eating things he should not. Like a typical young dog, he will eat items inside he should not. Pete has been trained to wear a muzzle and does not mind it if his adopter feels necessary. He is crate trained, but no blankets, pillows, or pads please. If you want a lovebug, Pete is your dog. Did I mention he loves belly rubs? While Pete can be quite social with older considerate children and adults, he is not so great with other dogs. Pete MUST BE THE ONLY DOG IN THE HOME-NO EXCEPTIONS! He is so kind to people and he has the softest touch. He will be a great companion for a retired family or families with older children. A secure fenced yard would be ideal for him to be able to explore and to safely fetch the ball. Pete's foster mom loves him and so will you. Pete is a great leash walker and has perfect recall. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccines. Pete requires eye drops once a day, but do not let that influence your decision not to learn more about this sweet boy. Reach out to us and let us discuss it. Other than that, Pete is extremely healthy.    He loves to ride in the car and watch the world go by while looking out the window. Pete is eager to please and will do anything ask of him. He is a happy dog and when he is tired, he loves to sit and cuddle.    Precious Pete's adoption Fee is $400 to help offset medical expenses. NBRAN will provide transportation, up to 1400 miles, to an approved home.
