Story
Characteristics: Milo has shown to be a very sweet, lazy boy. If he had it his way, he'd be laying in the sun all day, preferably with his dog besties. We believe his is a Great Dane mix due to his long face and body, as well as the tone of his bark. He is socialized with both people and dogs, but can be uneasy meeting dogs who are nervous or standoffish.
Background: Milo came to us as a shelter bypass dog from PACC, at only six months old. His background is unknown, but shows some characteristics of being taken from the litter too early. He has been with us for a year and a half now, waiting for his forever home.
Current progress: Milo has been around a lot of other dogs at Como, but has a hard time adjusting to the constant stimulus. He has undergone basic obedience training (sit, stay, no), and will wait for his food very politely. He is crate trained, and potty trained.
Cat tested: Upon request
Kids: Older children, young children upon request
On leash: Can pull, very receptive to training.
Behavior concerns: Milo is food excitable, different to resource guarding, but still should be separated from other dogs in the home when feeding. He is also very puppy-like in his play language, likely due to being separated from the litter too early. He can be a little nippy when excited but has not shown intent to escalate the behavior.
Training receptiveness: Very high food drive, high toy drive. Can be a bit puppy-like during play.
When you adopt a dog from Como Animal Works, you are provided free boarding as a courtesy and comfort of the dog being familiar with our facility. We also provide free training sessions on-site or at the home while the dog is transitioning to home life. Our goal is to help keep dogs out of overcrowded shelters and provide much needed dog socialization during that time.
