Story
Scout is a gentle, easygoing boy who is looking for a fresh start after being surrendered when his owner could no longer afford to care for him. Despite the changes in his life, Scout has remained a sweet and calm companion who simply wants a quiet place to call home and people to love. This handsome guy has a reserved and independent nature, but once he feels comfortable, his gentle personality shines through. Scout enjoys the simple things in life: leisurely walks, relaxing on the couch, and spending time near his people. He already knows "sit," takes treats nicely, walks well on a leash, and is both house trained and respectful of his living space, keeping his kennel clean. Scout gets along well with other dogs and has done well with children of all ages. While shelter life has made him a bit anxious and stressed, he has all the makings of an excellent companion once he settles into a stable routine. He would thrive in a quieter home where he can decompress, build confidence, and enjoy a predictable lifestyle. His calm temperament and good manners also make him a wonderful choice for a first-time dog owner. One thing that makes Scout especially charming is how well he handles grooming. He is patient and cooperative, making brushing and maintenance easy despite his beautiful long, silky coat. With his floppy ears, fluffy fur, and sweet expression, Scout has the look of a dog you'd want to curl up next to on a cozy evening. Scout may not be the loudest dog in the room or the first to demand attention, but he is the kind of loyal companion who quietly works his way into your heart. For someone looking for a calm, loving best friend, Scout could be the perfect match.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Enviornmental Allergies: On MedsThor, also known as Big Handsome or Bubba, is 120 pounds of pure love! Thor came to us as a medical case and now that he is happy and healthy he is ready to find his forever home. In 2023, Thor had two surgeries to correct a torn CCL in both knees and has had no mobility problems since then. The vet suggested he would do best with limited time on cement surfaces and no aggressive exercise. Thor has also been diagnosed with environmental allergies which is a lifelong condition which is being closely maintained and monitored.  Thor is a big love bug that certainly knows what he likes and doesn't in this world. Like most dogs, he enjoys the simple pleasures of being a dog such as food, car rides, meeting new people, walks, belly rubs, and a good brushing. Some things he does not like include fireworks, water, and enclosed stairways. Thor can often be seen chasing the squirrels and bunnies out of his yard. He would do best in a home with no cats as he approaches them in a very excited manner and with energy that is too much for most cats to handle. He does a great job at meeting dogs and tends to ignore them until they get proper introduction. After that, he loves to play with other dogs but is not always aware of his strength. He may be 100 pounds but he certainly does not believe that. He currently has a foster sibling that is about twenty pounds meaning he gets along with all sized of dogs but may need some corrections if his energy is too high.  Thor's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives, plus a free basic obedience training class at Cedar Run #2 in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires all animals be kept as indoor only pets and that adopters have a history of keeping their pets altered and current on vaccinations and prevention. If you would like to adopt Thor, please fill out an adoption application for consideration on our website, adopthope.org. The adoption process includes background and reference checks, a vet history check, and a home visit.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 9, 2026, 11:31 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Introducing Greta! Greta is a Labrador/Pyrenees mix who is around 4-5 years old. Greta is a big girl weighing in around 80 pounds, but don't let her size fool you because she is the biggest love bug and enjoys pets and attention from people she trusts! Greta really enjoys playing with other large (male) dogs and we would love to place her with a confident and playful companion that she can grow and learn from! However, she does not seem to enjoy the company of smaller dogs and she can be very selective with other female dogs.  Greta also enjoys spending time and getting attention from her care takers, so be prepared to have a couch companion of your own! Greta has been cat tested and is rather timid of feline friends so a dog savvy cat or no cats would be best for her.  She would also do best in a home with no children as she can be nervous at times and their unexpected movements may scare her. Greta is still learning about the wide world around her, but she is an eager "student" and happy to learn!   If you would like to meet Greta and think she would made a great addition to your home, be sure to fill out an adoption application on our website, adopthope.org.  Greta's adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, microchip, and current vaccinations and prevention. Also included is a free basic obedience training course at Cedar Run in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires all animals be kept as indoor only pets and that adopters have a history of keeping their pets altered and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. If you are interested in meeting Greta, please fill out an adoption application for consideration. The adoption process includes a background check, vet history check, and home ownership check.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 9, 2026, 11:31 am
