Story
Meet Roy 🤍🐾 — a gentle giant with the softest heart Roy is a 3-year-old Great Pyrenees mix whose story is both heartbreaking and deeply moving. He came into our rural shelter partner after his owner—a homeless veteran living out of his car—was faced with an impossible decision. With cold weather approaching and two large dogs depending on him, he knew he could no longer keep them safe. Out of pure love and selflessness, he chose the hardest option: surrendering them so they could have a chance at warmth, safety, and a future. There were tears from everyone involved—shelter staff, the veteran, and two very confused, brokenhearted dogs who didn’t understand why their world had suddenly changed. While at the shelter, Roy struggled. He was being picked on by other dogs, and it was clear that the shelter environment was overwhelming for him. Knowing how gentle and sensitive he is, we acted quickly and placed him into a foster home so he could finally decompress and feel safe again. Once out of the shelter, Roy’s true personality shined immediately. Roy is the definition of a gentle giant—an absolute teddy bear in a very big body. He is nothing but sweet, calm, and affectionate. He does well with other dogs, but his favorite thing in the world is to crawl into your lap and just be close. It’s impossible not to see how deeply loved he once was—and how ready he is to give that love right back. Roy is a big boy, likely well over 100 pounds, and he has the soft, sensitive soul that big dogs so often do. Right now, he is a little unsure about stairs, so his ideal home would be one with minimal stairs or adopters who have the patience, time, and willingness to help him learn at his own pace. With gentle encouragement and consistency, we know he’ll continue to gain confidence. Roy will make an incredible addition to any family and deserves nothing but the most amazing future after everything he’s been through. He’s loyal, loving, gentle, and ready for a second chance. If you’re looking for a giant cuddle bug with a heart of gold, Roy is waiting. 🤍 If interested in adopting, please apply on our website.
