Story
Marley is the kind of dog who makes life feel bigger, sillier, and way more fun. At around 35 lbs now (likely topping out around 45–50 lbs), he’s the perfect medium-sized adventure buddy: athletic enough for hikes and snow zoomies, but still fully convinced he belongs in your lap at the end of the day. His foster mom’s best guess is German Shepherd? Husky? Elkhound? Certified good boy? Whatever the mix, he’s 100% handsome and built for adventure.
This sweet, goofy guy is smart, affectionate, playful, and deeply people-oriented once he trusts you. Marley tends to warm up more quickly with women and can be more cautious around men, so he’ll need patient, slower introductions to new male humans. But give him a little time, a calm approach, and maybe a snack or two, and he turns into a loyal shadow who wants to be as close to his people as physically possible. Chest rubs, cuddles, tennis balls, tug, chewing toys, and sunbathing are all high on his list of favorite things.
Marley absolutely LOVES to play and thrives with active engagement and structure. He’s currently working hard on training skills like “place,” calming himself during excitement, crate confidence, and taking breaks during playtime. He’s incredibly food motivated, eager to learn, and genuinely enjoys training sessions. He’s already made huge progress and continues to improve every week.
Marley can be reactive toward some dogs, especially during introductions or when overstimulated, and he needs an adopter who understands dog body language and is committed to continuing his training. Because of this, Marley may do best as the only dog in the home with an active adopter who can give him consistency, structure, and outlets for his energy. If there is another dog in the home, it should be a carefully managed match with someone experienced and patient enough to help Marley continue learning appropriate play skills, boundaries, and how to regulate when excitement becomes too overwhelming. Small dogs or cats are most likely not a good fit for Marley.
Because Marley can become overstimulated and is still learning emotional regulation, he’s looking for an adult-only home (or one with older, dog-savvy teens) that can provide consistency, patience, and clear structure. He’ll do best with someone experienced with shepherd-type or reactive dogs who is excited about continuing his training journey.
The good news? Marley truly wants to connect. Underneath the big feelings is an incredibly sweet, hilarious, loving dog who is trying hard and making real progress. He crates well, bonds deeply, and has the kind of personality that will absolutely steal your heart once you’re in his circle.
If you’re looking for a smart, active dog with tons of potential—and you’re excited about building a strong relationship through training, adventure, and trust—Marley might just be your perfect match.
Snacks strongly encouraged.
