Story
Axel is a truly exceptional boy who ended up at a high kill shelter when his owners had to move without him. He is thought to be a mix of Elkhound and Akita, making him quite unique. Axel is highly intelligent, joyful, energetic, and playful. He enjoys chasing tennis balls and playing games like hide and seek in the yard. Due to his background, Axel requires an owner who can earn his trust. Once this trust is established, a remarkable bond forms. Axel will sit between your legs while you prepare his meals, gently nudge you when he wants attention, and even let you know when it's bedtime before curling up beside you if permitted. He loves being outdoors and will need a fenced yard to explore. Axel prefers being the only dog in the house, but believe me, his vibrant personality is enough for two! He is fully house-trained, has been left alone in new environments without causing any damage, and while he dislikes being confined, he is fine spending time anywhere with his caring owner. Axel should be walked with a harness for his comfort, allowing him to enjoy peaceful walks. He can be protective of you around other dogs or people during walks as he forms such a close bond with his person. If there are children in the home, we prefer them to be older teenagers. Axel has a fondness for high-value treats, such as special bones, and prefers to enjoy these alone until he's finished. If you choose to give Axel a treat like this, we recommend keeping it very small, as he must finish the treat before rejoining the party. Regular treats are entirely acceptable, and Axel is gentle when taking them from your hand. He will quickly adapt to any routine you establish and will greet you with a wagging tail and a happy demeanor. Axel is a wonderful dog seeking the perfect opportunity to bring joy, laughter, warmth, and love to a family ready to embrace him.
