Story
Meet Lexi — the little sweetheart who somehow ended up in a shelter, and to this day we still can't figure out why. She’s about three years old, weighs in at a perfect 38 pounds, and tiptoes around on the tiniest, cutest paws you've ever seen. She looks just like a mini Norwegian Elkhound with all the classic features: the dark-yet-soft, expressive face and eyes, the plush coat, and the cutest curled-up tail. Lexi is a sensitive soul who lives to make her people happy. She walks beautifully on a leash, responds to a gentle "no" like she's been studying your language for years, and has this soft, earnest way of looking at you that melts your whole heart. In foster, she's been the easygoing diplomat of the house — happy with playful puppies, older "in charge" dogs, and everything in between. Her little curly tail does a fast buzzy wag the moment she sees you. Mealtime is peak Lexi: she sits politely, waits patiently, and then looks up with those big soulful eyes as if to say, "Is that...for me?" She sleeps quietly through the night, is lovely when left alone, and mainly just wants to be near her person, ... not clingy, just quietly devoted. She even met equines (well, mini donkeys), once, gave a single "um, excuse me?" bark, and deciding her dog friends were much more interesting. Curiosity satisfied, she trotted off without a fuss. Lexi is gentle, funny, tender, and so ready for her forever home. If you want a soft-hearted companion who brings sweetness instead of chaos, come meet Lexi. She’s the easiest "yes" you’ll make all week. Adopt Lexi!

Story
Meet Freya, a stunning 4-year-old, 50-pound Norwegian Elkhound who embodies everything people love about this ancient and noble breed. With her soft coat, expressive eyes, and gentle spirit, Freya is one of those dogs who quietly wins your heart before you even realize it’s happening. She can be shy and a little nervous when meeting new people, but once she understands that you’re kind and safe, she opens up beautifully. Freya quickly becomes a devoted companion who wants to stay close, soak in affection, and share her sweet, loving nature. Those tender moments—when she melts into you after hearing she’s a “pretty girl”—are just priceless. Freya enjoys toys and balls, though she prefers her own style of play. Fetch isn’t her passion, but she loves batting her ball around, scooping it up, and prancing proudly with it. A securely fenced yard is ideal for her, giving her space to explore, run, and show off her adorable zoomies. Like many Elkhounds, she thrives in cooler weather and will happily go in and out of the door for fresh air as often as you’ll allow. This smart girl is both crate trained and potty trained. She absolutely loves spending time outdoors with her people and finds the world endlessly fascinating—especially birds, squirrels, and anything that moves just fast enough to keep her attention. She has seen a cat in her foster home and is quite intrigued and focused; we are happy to continue cat-testing for any adopter who needs clarity. Norwegian Elkhounds are known for their intelligence, loyalty, confidence, and strong bond with their families. Freya is a wonderful example of all these qualities and is ready to give her heart to someone who will appreciate her gentle soul and steady devotion. If Freya sounds like the companion you’ve been waiting for, please reach out to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comNovember 26, 2025, 8:42 pm
