Story
Carl is a 1½-year-old Norwegian Elkhound mix (his previous owner says he’s 50% Elkhound) whose superpower is instantly making everyone he meets fall head over heels in love. Carl can be shy and standoffish when he meets new people...but it lasts for approximately one hot second. Give him a minute and a couple of treats, and suddenly he’s leaning into you for pets, melting into your side, and wondering why on Earth you decided to stop touching him. Once Carl decides you’re his person, you’re his person. He bonds quickly, loves deeply, and wants nothing more than to be close to you. Carl is also a total gentleman out in the world. We’ve taken him to big, busy events, and he has handled them beautifully. He’s good with kids, cats, and other dogs and genuinely enjoys having canine friends. When it comes to dogs, Carl does have preferences. In his past life, he had a scary experience with a housemate so while he loves other dogs, if one gets too wild or intense, he can become overwhelmed and will politely remove himself from the chaos by sitting near the door and asking to come inside. Honestly? We respect the boundary-setting. We think Carl would do best with a fun, playful female companion, a dog smaller than him, or he’d be perfectly happy being your one-and-only. Carl isn’t looking for a complicated life. He wants a person who will include him, love him, and appreciate his goofy young-dog personality. In return, you’ll get an affectionate, loyal companion who thinks leaning his entire body against you counts as a love language. If you’re looking for a dog who goes from “Nice to meet you” to “PLEASE PET ME” in record time, Carl might be your guy.
