IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Florence (Flora), 3 years old, spayed female, Carolina Dog mix, 46 pounds. She is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved. Florence, affectionately nicknamed, Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a playful and energetic dog who loves to wrestle and be chased. She would do best in a home with dogs of similar size and energy level. When playing, Flora could play for hours. She loves to interact with another dog in the home, Furman by licking his face. Flora has experience playing with dogs ranging from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. Flora requires slow and guided introductions to other dogs. She has shown some leash reactivity, exhibiting behaviors like raised hair, whimpering and barking. Her foster parents have worked with her on this behavior. It did take her some time to befriend the resident pup, and Flora may do best as the one and only in the home. Flora’s compatibility with cats is unknown. She adores the 8-year-old child in the home, but is nervous of new children. Flora does have stranger danger when new people come into the home, and tends to bark at them, especially when they move around quickly. Because of her fear, she may prefer an adult household at this time. As mentioned, Flora has some leash reactivity and gets easily spooked, often pulling a lot. However, she has made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli. She walks much better in calm environments with less activity. She will need consistent training to help her with her leash skills and feeling safe around new dogs and stimuli. Flora is fully housebroken. She has demonstrated some anxiety in the crate at home. When her foster parents have gone out of town she has gone to boarding where she is crated with no issues. At home, she is able to be out of a crate and unsupervised with zero issues. She is fed separately from the other dogs in the home. Otherwise, she shares her toys well and has no issues with people and food, although she needs reminders to take treats gently. Flora has high energy needs and requires dedicated outdoor playtimes to do well inside the home. She thrives in a moderately active home with regular outdoor play sessions. She loves playing with the resident dog, bucking around the yard, eating, going for walks, sunbathing, and birdwatching. She is a total love bug and enjoys snuggling. She does well in the car but is terrified of storms, often seeking shelter in a closet or burying her head in a lap. Flora’s ideal home would be with someone who is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets or a well balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. Flora needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement to help with her anxiety. Flora is very smart, loves learning new tricks, and is very submissive and affectionate. She may be a work in progress, but will reward you with love and companionship for years to come! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. Story
Meet Sunshine — The Brightest of the Weather Crew! Every storm needs a little Sunshine, and this girl is exactly that!Sunshine is part of our adorable Weather Crew — five resilient puppies (Rain, Cloud, Stormy, Breezy, and Sunshine) who’ve been waiting patiently at the shelter since April. Their story began in heartbreak: rescued from a severe hoarding situation where over 25 dogs were seized, and sadly, their mom and dad didn’t make it. But these pups are determined to find their silver lining. At nine months old, Sunshine radiates warmth in every way. Her golden-yellow coat glows like morning light, and her alert, pointy ears make her look like she’s always listening for your laughter. She’s gentle, tender-hearted, and has the softest spirit — the kind of pup that reminds you that love can heal even the darkest days. Out of her litter, Sunshine (along with her brother Stormy) is the most cautious, but her confidence grows every day. She’s learning to walk nicely on a leash, keeps her crate tidy, and loves to play chase with her sister Breezy and the other dogs in foster care. She does not like loud noises at all.  Understandably.  Me either.  She will require another confident dog to help transition to a new home and learn the ropes.  A physical fence is also required since she is nervous and learning to trust. Sunshine has been spayed, is up-to-date on vaccines and prevention, heartworm negative, and weighs 33.4 lbs. Her breed appears to be a Carolina Dog mix with Cur, which means she’s both loyal and intelligent — a devoted companion just waiting for her forever home. If you’re ready to bring a little light into your life, this girl will brighten every day. Adopt Sunshine — and let her remind you that after every storm comes a ray of hope.  If you would like Sunshine to join your family fill out an adoption application.  Her $500 covers all medical care up to adoption to include vaccines, spay, microchip, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY. ##2561037##

Story
Meet Breezy — the sunshine after the storm! At just 9 months old, Breezy has already weathered more than most pups — but you’d never know it from her happy-go-lucky grin and endless tail wags! Born into a large group of dogs that were later seized for neglect, Breezy and her siblings (Stormy, Cloud, Sunshine, and Rain — a.k.a. The Weather Crew!) were the lucky ones to make it out. She grew up in the shelter from just 8 weeks old until rescue, and now she’s blossoming into the sweetest, funniest, most water-loving girl you could ever meet!  Her favorite hobby? Sitting in her water bowl (not next to it) and splashing around like she’s queen of the puddles! She adores playing best with her sister Sunshine!  But loves all the dogs!  She would do great in a home with another dog!  She would also benefit from a physical fence. Her personality? Silly, social, and oh-so-sweet — she adores other dogs, plays beautifully with every pup she meets, and is wonderful with kids too. Her health? Breezy is up-to-date on all vaccines, preventions, spayed, and heartworm negative — the total package! This girl’s spirit is as light and refreshing as her name. She’s the perfect mix of goofy and gentle, and she’s more than ready to find a forever family who will love her through every season. If you would like to have Breezy join your family please fill out an adoption application.  Her $500 adoption fee covers her medical care up to adoption to include vaccines, spay, microchip, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY. ##2561552##
