Story
Hi there! Im the sweet, smart, and sometimes sassy Jack! I am waiting to find a patient, loving family to call my very own. Phew! Ive been waiting for my chance at adoption since the beginning of 2021, when Animal Aid first brought me into their foster program from Multnomah County Animal Services. Shortly after I was brought into foster care, I started displaying some interesting behavioral challenges. We soon discovered that I had low-grade mast cell cancer. Once we had some growths removed and began treating my other symptoms, I started to become a much happier pup! With the help of my very kind and patient fosters, I have been able to learn so much to set me up for success in a furever home. While I can have some challenging moments, I am a very smart pup that will do just about anything for a yummy treat. I am hoping to find a family that is just as patient with me as my fosters have been, so that I can continue growing my trust in humans and live a comfortable, confident, and happy life! Due to my occasional behavioral challenges, I am not the best fit for a lot of younger children; however, I have learned to adore snuggling up with my fosters young niece who is very sweet, a great listener, and especially respectful to me. Likes: I absolutely love treats! Even if I get in one of my grumpy moods, I am pretty easy to win over with a yummy snack. I am an incredibly food-motivated pup, which helps tremendously when it comes to learning new tricks or behaviors. I could learn just about anything! I also love to play fetch and tug with my favorite toys, cuddling up with my favorite people, and running around with doggy friends. I really love to be warm: Since its started to get cold, my favorite thing is sleeping in front of a radiant heat lamp. I love it so much my fosters sometimes have trouble keeping me away from the cozy heat. I cant wait until its summertime again so I can enjoy some more sunbathing. I also LOVE the beach! I discovered sand just this year, and I can run very fast on it! I prefer calmer dogs that are respectful of my space and dont steal my favorite toys. Dislikes: I have handling sensitivities! I can get pretty spicy if I am being touched in certain areas of my body, but it can also really just depend on the day or situation. I am not a fan of being left alone and would prefer to be with you at all times. I really dont like being cold or wet. Id rather not go out in the rain. Although my fosters have introduced me to coats, I dont seem to enjoy them. I also have gotten into some feisty situations getting tangled in a few harnesses, so my fosters have done a great job working with me on a harness that requires minimal handling. Its possible this coat and harness sensitivity may be a result of some discomfort they bring because of my medical condition, which you can read more about below. My least favorite thing in the whole world is being touched or bothered when I am curled up under the covers! Its best to call me to come out of my cozy blanket burrow, rather than attempt pulling me out yourself. Medical: I have a history of mast cell cancer growths, which can reoccur. According to our vets, there is a low risk of these growths complicating my quality of life, as they can be removed if they come back. The growths can cause me to be quite itchy at times, so I take some medicine to help with that (the itchies might also be why I dont like harnesses or coats very much). We were told that there is a low risk of these growths spreading to my liver or spleen. I am currently taking a few different medications to help manage my behavioral and medical needs and I am pretty good at taking my pills, especially if accompanied with a delicious treat!Helping Hands Grants: Due to Jacks medical and behavioral needs, Animal Aid is offering a $500 annual grant to assist in the costs of his ongoing medical care. Additionally, we are offering a one-time $500 grant to work with the Certified Veterinary Behaviorist and Certified Trainers at Synergy Behavior Solutions to set him and his furever family up for lasting success. Approx. Date of Birth: 7/1/2015 Weight: 18 lbs

Story
Chip is an active and adorable one-year old terrier mix on the hunt for his very own "best friend forever".  His match will be someone who is active, but who will appreciate plenty of cuddle up time throughout the day.   His happy spot is getting to be your devoted sidekick. At 17Lbs. he is the perfect take along everywhere buddy. He has the all important house training well in hand. He’s even willing to sleep through the night in his crate. His person, however, will need to be patient and consistent to help him learn basic commands and good manners. Did we mention he his food motivated? He will perform amazing acrobatic feats to snatch a morsel of food from your hand given the opportunity! It is actually so impressive you may forget that he is not supposed to be doing that. Chip would want us to make sure it is clear that what he may be lack in training (right now) he’s more than happy to make up for in enthusiasm, curiosity, and adoring love for you.      Chip is good with other dogs (will even engage in play now and then) and is successfully fostering with a dog savvy cat. But, he would do best if you can really focus on him while he learns good behaviors and basks in your attention. Kids are not a match for Chip as he can be unpredictable around them--sometimes he is great but if he gets too wound up, nervous, or stressed by them he’s not above a nip or bite in response.  The right match for Chip would be a fairly calm adult home. His activity level does mean he also needs someone who wants to engage in daily activity (physical and mental) with him. Pull out his harness and he's front and center for a walk. Training sessions are a great mental activity option. We are happy to provide trainer recommendations. He'd prefer a home with a fenced in yard to have run around time in. Chip is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. His adoption fee is $350. He is being fostered in North Portland. You can apply to adopt Chip by submitting an Underdogs Rock Rescue application, which can only be accessed online at  https://underdogsrock.org/adopt-a-dog   You must be available to meet an Underdog in their foster's location and dogs are not held for applicants or shipped outside of the Portland metro area. Home checks are part of the adoption process. For updates on Chip and all the Underdogs be sure to follow the Underdogs Rock Rescue Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/UnderdogsRockRescue  June 6, 2023, 1:55 am
