Story
Bear is a 6-year-old, 20 lb gentleman who has quietly reinvented himself.
When he came to us from a Texas shelter, he was severely matted, overweight, and clearly under cared for. Since then, he’s been groomed, started on quality salmon-based food, and is looking and feeling like a completely different dog. His skin has improved, his weight is coming down, and his personality is shining through.
Bear is easygoing, affectionate, and happiest when he can lean into you for pets. He enjoys his walks, rides well in the car, and settles nicely in a crate. He’s moderate energy and appreciates routine.
With other dogs, Bear may bark initially as a way of announcing himself, but he settles quickly and has done well meeting small, medium, and large dogs. At events, he handles himself beautifully.
He is currently living with a very dog savvy cat in foster care and has done well. He has also lived with a 9-year-old child in a previous foster home and enjoyed the interaction and attention.
Most importantly, Bear is deeply bonded to Dolce. He is her confidence and stability. They sleep together, walk together, and regulate together. Separating them is not an option.
Bear is a solid adult dog who needs consistency, daily walks, and a home that understands that adult dogs come with personality, not perfection.
Bear will only be adopted with Dolce.
This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)

Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well.
Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation.
