Story
Meet Piper! A joyful two-year-old Pharaoh Hound/American Pitbull Terrier mix currently in Hickory, NC, who’s a little beam of sunshine with a zest for life that’s simply irresistible. At just 31 pounds, Piper is compact but full of life, with a sleek brown coat, white chest, and eyes that gleam with curiosity. Once neglected she now radiates joy, trust, and boundless energy. She loves people, delights in play, and excels at cuddling close! Whether she’s zipping through the yard with her favorite toy in tow, bounding into a game of chase, or inventing her own version of keep-away, she brings spark and spontaneity to every moment. Her athletic build and sharp mind make her an excellent fit for an active family who can keep up with her joyful pace and offer plenty of outlets for her energy. Walks, runs, backyard games, and brainy enrichment toys are right up her alley! Piper is house-trained, crate-trained, and already knows sit, down, and stay. She is a social butterfly who greets new people with joyful wiggles and heartfelt hugs! She’s wonderful with children and very compatible with other dogs who enjoy play and companionship. However, due to her strong prey drive, Piper is not suitable for homes with cats or small animals. Her instincts are strong, and she’ll thrive in a home that sets her up for success by providing clear boundaries, fun challenges, and loving structure. Though she’s high energy, Piper also knows when to settle down. After a good play session, she’s all about curling up next to her favorite person for snuggles and a well-earned nap. Like many pups, she’s sensitive to fireworks and loud sounds, and she appreciates having a cozy, quiet space to retreat to when things get a little too lively. Piper shares a sweet and supportive bond with George, her calm and gentle friend. They would love to be adopted together if the opportunity arises, but they’re also available separately, each ready to begin a new chapter with a family who understands their unique gifts. Could your home be the one where Piper’s joy takes flight? Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet Piper today! Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Story
Meet George and Piper! George is a devoted three-year-old Great Pyrenees/Saint Bernard mix and Piper is a joyful two-year-old Pharaoh Hound/American Pitbull Terrier mix, both currently in Hickory, NC. Together, they are a heartwarming study in contrast and connection. George with his quiet strength and soulful gaze, and Piper with her spark, resilience, and endless affection! George’s presence is as steady and soulful as the mountains that surround him. With a striking tricolor coat and a towering yet gentle stature at 112 pounds, George is a beautiful blend of loyalty, intelligence, and quiet strength. Though his early life was harsh and lonely, George has spent the last 15 months with a foster family who helped him rediscover what it means to be safe, loved, and understood. He’s not a dog who demands constant cuddles. He’s the type who’ll quietly lay at your feet while you’re cooking dinner, or settle beside you on the floor as you unwind with a movie. His affection is deep, and when he chooses to show it, it’s a moment you won’t forget! And then there's Piper, the sunshine in George’s sky! At just 31 pounds, Piper is compact but full of life, with a sleek brown coat, white chest, and eyes that gleam with curiosity. Once neglected she now radiates joy, trust, and boundless energy. She loves people, delights in play, and excels at cuddling close! Her favorite games include keep-away with toys, and she greets familiar faces with an infectious mix of wiggles, hugs, and tail wags. Piper is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows sit, down, and stay. While she thrives with activity, she’s also content to snooze beside her favorite person or pup. George is house-trained, leash-savvy, and knows several commands like sit, down, shake, easy, and stay. He thrives on predictability and responds beautifully to gentle guidance and clear routines. He enjoys human companionship but also values having his own space. He’s the kind of dog who builds bonds slowly, and once you're in his circle, you're there for life! Piper, on the other hand, is the social butterfly of the duo. She’s friendly to strangers, wonderful with children, and very good with other dogs. Her love for George is clear in how she encourages him to play, rest, and trust. Though she may need slow introductions with cats or small animals, her gentle spirit suggests she’ll learn with patience and care. Like many pups, she’s sensitive to loud sounds like fireworks and thunder, and will appreciate a cozy retreat when things get noisy. Because of his sensitive nature and past experiences, George is most compatible with a calm, structured environment and a guardian who understands that trust isn’t instant, it’s built over time. He’s not suited to apartments or small condos; he needs room to roam, think, and feel secure. While he has made remarkable emotional progress, it's important to note that George had one fear-based bite incident during a meet-and-greet. A well-meaning visitor moved too quickly into his space and repeatedly patted his head, a sensitive area for George due to past trauma. In a separate instance, George snapped (without making contact) when a new person leaned in face-to-face with him in an unfamiliar environment, a clear signal that he needs space and time to feel safe before close physical contact. A professional trainer evaluated him and confirmed that George is not aggressive but is a sensitive, thoughtful dog reacting in ways consistent with his breed and background. The trainer described him as a "normal dog" with a deep soul and a big heart who simply needs a patient and caring guide. His compassionate trainers have kindly offered to support his future family with video or phone consultations. Together, George and Piper create a beautiful balance! Her joy lifts him, and his calm centers her. They nap together, play together, and find comfort in each other’s presence. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to witness true companionship, look no further than these two gentle souls! Could your home be the place where George and Piper begin their next chapter, side by side? Contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about this extraordinary pair!
