Meet Rio!Rio is a smart, active guy who’s ready for a fresh start and a home that can offer consistency, structure, and plenty of positive reinforcement. He already has a great foundation and is eager to keep learning with a family who enjoys training and engagement.This handsome pup knows several cues, including sit, down, paw, other paw, and drop it. He’s a big fan of interactive enrichment and recently showed great focus and appropriate play skills during a snuffle mat session. Rio loves fetch and toys, though his enthusiasm means tougher toys will be his best match -plush toys may not survive for long!Rio can be a bit cautious in new environments and with unfamiliar people, but once he has time to settle in and build trust, his personality really shines. He’s highly food-motivated (cheese is a favorite!) and responds well to positive reinforcement. While he has a strong toy drive that can look intense, no resource guarding has been observed during play.Outdoor time is a highlight for Rio, though he’s still working on his leash manners and may pull or try to dart. Continued leash training and secure handling will be important to help him succeed on walks and adventures.Slow, structured meet-and-greets with other dogs may be possible, but past experiences suggest introductions should be handled thoughtfully. Rio has not yet had a formal dog test and is not a candidate for dog parks or playgroups at this time. Our team will be happy to help guide this process.Because of his energy level, toy drive, and need for stability, Rio is best suited for a home with children 8 years and older. Any kids in the home should be part of the meet-and-greet process so everyone starts off on the right paw.With a consistent routine, clear expectations, and ongoing training, Rio has the potential to be a wonderful companion. He’s looking for a dedicated adopter who’s excited to continue building confidence, skills, and a lifelong bond together.
