Story
Hi everyone... I have a pretty big story to tell you! You might remember me as the scared little stray girl who wandered into a garage near the old Sumner Store on the evening of May 9. I was wearing my blue harness, but it was hanging off me, and I couldn't find my way back to my family. Sadly, nobody ever came looking for me, and because I didn't have a microchip, I could not tell anyone where I belonged.
But that is okay, because my story didn't end there! I am officially a Campbell Safe Haven Rescue & Rehabilitation dog now, and they gave me the beautiful name Poppy.
Just a few days after I went to my foster home, I got really, really sick. I stopped eating and could not stop vomiting. My amazing foster mom knew something was wrong right away. The next morning, I went to Hansen-Meekin Animal Hospital and tested positive for Parvo. 😢 It is a really scary, dangerous virus, but because I went straight into foster care, none of the other dogs at the rescue or training center were exposed! (And my foster sister, Amie, is properly vaccinated, so she is safe, thank goodness!)
The vet sent me home with fluids and medicine, warning everyone that I would likely get much worse before I got better. But my foster mom Laurie is an absolute hero. She stayed up with me around the clock, giving me sub-Q fluids several times a day, cooking me special meals, and monitoring my every breath.
Because of her tireless love and quick action, I beat the odds!
I am so incredibly happy to tell you that I am now doing AMAZING! I am eating, drinking, playing, and constantly demanding belly rubs and attention.
My Journey Forward
Rest & Recovery I am going to stay in quarantine with my foster for the next few weeks to make sure I am 100% fully recovered and healthy.
Medical Foster Right now, I am still technically under medical foster care while I finish building back my strength.
The Bright Future This has been a long, stressful, and expensive journey for the rescue, but seeing me happy and healthy makes every single second worth it. I can't wait to find a real forever family who will love me for the rest of my days!
