Story
Location: Cochrane, AB // Age: Approx 13 years old // Sex: Male (neuter booked June 10) // Energy Level: Low // Dogs: Yes, small calm dogs // Cats: Untested, likely fine // Kids: No // Looking for a tiny shadow with a huge heart? Torey might just be your guy. 💛 At 13 years young, Torey is a sweet, affectionate senior who forms deep bonds with his person and wants nothing more than to be by your side. Once he feels safe, this little man becomes the ultimate velcro dog—following you from room to room, curling up close, and happily claiming your pillow as his nighttime spot. He’s the kind of companion who loves hard and leans fully into his person. Torey is searching for a very special foster-to-adopt home while we complete his vetting that understands senior dogs aren’t “less” — they’re just a little more specific. He thrives best in a calm, quiet household with someone home often, as routine and companionship help him feel secure. He does experience anxiety and can be vocal when he wants attention (he has perfected the art of the attention bark 🎤), so detached housing or a home where noise could be an issue would likely not be the best fit. This loving little senior currently takes daily calming medication, which has helped him settle, and he’ll need an adopter who is compassionate and committed to continuing the care that helps him feel his best. He also has some mild age-related health considerations, including a heart murmur that doesn’t currently require medication but should be monitored as he ages—pretty normal for many senior pups, but important nonetheless. He has had a full dental recently 🩺 Torey would do best in: 🏡 A calm, low-traffic home. 🛋️ Someone home often (retirees, work-from-home, or homebodies would be ideal). 🐶 Calm dogs are okay. 🐱 Cats are likely okay. 🚫 No young children. 💛 An adopter who understands patience, anxiety, and senior dog care. Torey may be nervous at first and can be a little grumpy when scared, but beneath that anxious exterior is an incredibly loving dog who simply wants to feel safe. Give him time, understanding, and consistency, and you’ll gain a fiercely devoted best friend who will absolutely steal your heart. He may be in his golden years, but Torey still has so much love left to give. We’re looking for someone willing to give this special boy the soft landing he deserves. Could that be you? 🐾 If you're interested in meeting Torey, please complete an adoption application: https://www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com/dog-application-form

Story
Meet Ellie and Pumpkin—two adorable Pomeranian-Poodle mixes who may be complete opposites in personality, but together they're the perfect team. At just 11 months old, these best friends are looking for a forever family who will welcome both of them with open arms. **Before we introduce them, one important note:** despite their breed mix, **Ellie and Pumpkin are not hypoallergenic.** Like all dogs, they produce dander and shed to varying degrees, so they are not suitable for homes looking for an allergy-friendly dog. Pumpkin is the social butterfly of the duo. Confident, playful, and always ready for the next adventure, she's happiest when she's in the middle of the action. Whether she's playing with other dogs, greeting new friends on a walk, or enthusiastically announcing that dinner is served, Pumpkin brings laughter and energy wherever she goes. She's also quite the little comedian—she's been known to wriggle out of her harness and proudly "hide" it as if she's won the greatest game ever invented! Ellie is Pumpkin's sweet and gentle counterpart. She can be a little shy when meeting new people or dogs, but give her a little time and you'll discover one of the most affectionate, loving little dogs you'll ever meet. Once she's comfortable, her silly side comes shining through—and trust us, you haven't lived until you've seen Ellie launch herself into the air with her incredible hops! This tiny girl has some serious jumping skills, so she'll definitely keep you entertained. She also has a slight weakness for dinner time and may politely (or not-so-politely!) remind you that she'd be happy to help finish your meal. These two absolutely adore each other and love spending their days wrestling, chasing one another around the yard, chewing on tasty treats, and curling up together for naps. They're wonderful walking companions with lovely leash manners and enjoy getting out for daily strolls, though having each other means they're also experts at entertaining themselves. At bedtime, they're happy to snuggle in close and sleep soundly through the night. They're affectionate, friendly with children, polite with new people, and have done wonderfully meeting other dogs. Ellie tends to let Pumpkin do most of the socializing at first, but she's becoming more confident every day with Pumpkin by her side. Like many young dogs, they're still polishing up their house training and will benefit from a consistent routine as they settle into their forever home. They're eager to learn, motivated by food (and in Ellie's case, delicious chews!), and have all the potential to become incredible lifelong companions. Because Pumpkin can be quite vocal when she's excited, a detached home would likely be the best fit where she can happily announce life's exciting moments without worrying about close neighbours. As two young, active dogs, Ellie and Pumpkin would thrive with a family who can include them in everyday life. They'd love regular walks, backyard playtime, adventures, and plenty of opportunities to burn off their puppy energy before curling up for evening cuddles. While they're wonderfully affectionate, they're not couch potatoes just yet—they're still youngsters who are ready to explore the world together. Ellie and Pumpkin have already found their perfect best friend in each other. Now they're searching for the family who will love them both for the rest of their lives. If you're looking for a pair that offers the perfect balance of playful adventure and sweet cuddles, these two might just be your perfect match. **Ellie & Pumpkin are bonded and must be adopted together.** If you think you could be the perfect match for this lovable duo, please complete an adoption application: https://www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com/dog-application-form
