When he first arrived, I thought he was much older and that he would be a hospice case. He was stiff and frozen in fear and skinny. He would barely move. I put him in a kennel with younger dogs and he soon found his youthful spirit again and is like a different dog now. I don't know his age for sure but he has lots of life and happiness left in him and I think he is younger than 8. He weighs about 60 lbs now. He learned how to climb out of the 6 ft chain link kennel but he doesn't stray far from it except to follow me on walks. He goes down the pond to take a dip but mostly just hangs out by the kennel. So while he has the skills of a husky to escape, he doesn't have the urge of a husky to run off and go explore. I don't even put him up when I leave because he doesn't go anywhere. He is great with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know how big he is so he wouldn't be good around scared little dogs. Not because he would hurt them, but because they might get scared of him. He is fine with my chihuahuas but they are very bossy and not scared of anything. For that reason, I also don't think he should be around cats. To be clear, he is not aggressive at all, he just tries to play with everything and with his size that just wouldn't work with a dog or cats that's scared of him. He is very food motivated and walks well on the leash as well. He is an awesome boy and I am glad he didn't die at the kill shelter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative). Story
Meet Avalon, a gentle soul Looking for her forever home Avalon is a beautiful 5-year-old, 12-pound Pomeranian with a heart as soft as her fluffy coat. Her life began in a puppy mill, where she was sadly discarded once it was discovered she had luxating patellas and could no longer be used for breeding. Despite her rough start, Avalon is slowly discovering what it means to be loved and cherished. She is still timid when meeting new people and will need a gentle, patient owner who can give her time to trust. Once she feels safe, her sweet personality shines through—full of affection, curiosity, and a growing love for play. She’s just learning the joy of toys and chew bones, and it’s a delight to see her tail wag as she explores this new world. Avalon would do best in a home with another small dog to keep her company and help build her confidence. Her ideal adopter would be home often and committed to protecting her from re-injuring her leg. She did have surgery on her leg so it has been repaired! A secure fence is required for her safety. She gets along well with other dogs and cats, but she hasn’t lived with children, so her comfort level around them is unknown. Avalon is crate-trained but still working on her potty training, so patience and consistency will be key. With love, time, and a safe environment, Avalon will continue to blossom into the happy, confident pup she was always meant to be. Could you be the one to give her the second chance she deserves? Her adoption fee is $350.00 Avalon is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped and is on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Please follow the link below for the adoption application. Note applicants must live within one hour of Toledo, Ohio. http://www.dogworksohio.com/adoption-application.html
