He's Made It to Wisconsin and Is Looking for His Forever Home!Gus has made the long journey from Mississippi to Wisconsin with Mutt Life Dog Rescue and is settling into his foster home. This sweet little guy deserves a fresh start and the chance to discover what life is like in a loving home.Meet GusGus is part of an owner-surrender/hoarding situation in Mississippi, where his owner had approximately 40 Pomeranian/Chihuahua mixes and could no longer care for them. At 5 years old, Gus has spent much of his life in an overcrowded environment with many other dogs and has had very little opportunity to experience the world outside that setting.Now that he has made it to Wisconsin, Gus has the opportunity to begin a new chapter. He may be shy and unsure around unfamiliar people, places, and experiences, so he will need a patient and understanding family willing to give him time to feel safe and comfortable.Gus may not immediately come out of his shell, but with patience, consistency, and gentle reassurance, he can begin building confidence and learning that he is finally safe. He deserves the chance to experience the comforts of home, the kindness of a loving family, and all the wonderful things he has been missing.Gus will also need help adjusting to the routines of being a house dog. His potty training, crate training, and leash manners are unknown, so his new family should be prepared to patiently teach him these skills using positive reinforcement. Since he has lived with many other dogs, having a friendly, confident canine companion may help him feel more comfortable as he adjusts to his new surroundings.Gus is looking for a special person who understands that earning his trust may take time. He may be nervous at first, but with love and understanding, he has the opportunity to become a wonderful companion. Apply: Fill out adoption application completely and submit all necessary documents.2.)Application Decision: approved applicants will be notified via phone call and email.3.)Foster-to-Adopt Trial Period: after approval, you have the opportunity to do a meet and greet and bring your dog home! You get a 5 day foster-to-adopt (FTA) period to make sure it's the right fit.4.) Final Decision: By the end of the FTA period, please let us know your final decision to adopt or return the dog to our rescue.5.) Home Visit: After the adoption process we conduct a home visit either in person or via zoom meeting to ensure that everything is going well with the transition and to answer any final questions you may have.6.) Neuter/spay for puppies: for dogs who are not fixed at the time of adoption, we will reimburse $125 for the procedure once we receive proof of spay/neuter. We recommend going to HAWS Snip Clinic in Waukesha, WI or Wisconsin Community Veterinarian Center in Madison, WI for the most affordable option.
