Story
Mikey will be at the Holland PetSmart from 2 to 5pm on December 6 if you want to meet him in person. If he gets overwhelmed, we will bring him back to his foster home early. Meet Mikey — the sweetest little spunky pug you’ll ever meet! Mikey is a 3-year-old blind pug who has been through a lot but still has so much love (and snorts!) to give. After his owner passed away, Mikey ended up in a shelter and was understandably terrified. When he arrived in his foster home, the world still felt very big and very scary — he even stayed in his bed for the first few days because everything was so new. But this brave boy has made huge progress. With patience and gentle routines, he’s slowly learned to explore his foster home and is gaining confidence every day. He’s careful and deliberate, taking his time to map out his surroundings. Because Mikey is completely blind, he needs an adopter who can help keep him safe: He cannot navigate stairs. He loves sleeping on the bed, but you’ll need safety measures so he can’t fall. His home environment should stay consistent — he thrives when furniture and layouts don’t change often. He’s best suited for someone planning to stay in their home long-term. If you expect to move soon, Mikey isn’t the right match. He hasn't lived with other dogs but is cat friendly. Personality & Playtime Mikey loves being outside and enjoys a fenced yard where he can safely sniff around. He has more energy than you’d expect and thinks play-wrestling is the best thing ever. Stuffed toys? Prepare for them to be “shredded with love.” Weight Loss Journey Mikey’s former owner fed mostly human food, so he’s currently overweight at 20 pounds. His vet recommends he be around 13–15 pounds. He’s on a measured diet and taking short walks, and he’ll need an adopter committed to helping him continue this journey. Affection Level: 100% Mikey lights up when his foster parents come home — greeting them with enthusiastic sniffing, snorting, tail wags, and his signature happy pug wiggles. He has an incredible nose and fantastic hearing. He listens intently to new sounds, tilting his head in concentration (he’s still deciding how he feels about Christmas music!). If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a brave, loving pug who just wants safety, routine, and a human to adore, Mikey may be your perfect match. He sees an ophthalmologist on December 10 and will be neutered on December 16. He is healthy - he had full bloodwork, vaccinated, microchipped. For more information, email tysonsplacerescue@gmail.com or fill out an adoption application here: https://tysonsplacerescue.org/cat-and-dog-adoptions/#adopt or visit him in person at the Holland PetSmart on December 6 from 2 to 5 pm (if he gets overwhelmed, we will bring him back to his foster home early).
