Jolene has had a rough beginning, but this brindle Pug/Frenchie girl is already showing us exactly what she’s made of.She was found wandering the streets of Waco, painfully thin and clearly neglected. She was microchipped and reported, but no owner came forward. By the time she was brought to safety, Jolene weighed only about 14 to 15 pounds and was so weak and emaciated that her veterinarian felt it was safest to hold off on vaccines until her body had a chance to recover.Even after all of that, Jolene is still unbelievably sweet.She’s estimated to be around 7 or 8 years old and has that perfect little senior-lady combination of sass and softness. She snorts, she has opinions, and she would prefer that other dogs not get directly in her face. She does okay with dogs who respect her space, and slow introductions are best. If another dog gets too close, she may puff herself up and let them know she’d like some room, but the dogs she has been around have simply backed off and everyone moved on.Right now, Jolene’s biggest job is getting stronger. She is heartworm negative, has been dewormed, received Bordetella, and has been treated for an ear infection. She still needs to be spayed and complete the rest of her routine veterinary care once she has gained enough weight and her body is ready.For such a frail little girl, Jolene has plenty of spirit. She is sweet, spunky, and already beginning to learn that food will keep coming, soft places are hers to sleep in, and the people around her are here to help.Her past may have left her skinny and tired, but it did not take away her personality.Now Jolene just needs the kind of home where she can finish healing, keep getting stronger, and spend the rest of her years being treated like the very important little lady she clearly believes herself to be.Jolene is currently being fostered in Bryan, Texas, but don’t let distance stop you.
