Story
Parker is looking for a human who is a homebody with a hankering for some canine companionship. Parker is a great little dog if he doesn't have to meet new people. He's the type of dog who throws his wholehearted devotion to his main person(s) whoever they may be. This almost 7-year-old rat terrier is a joy when his world is predictably small and where exposure to new things and people is limited. However, pushed too far out of his comfort zone, Parker will bite first and ask questions later.   Parker's perfect world would contain no surprises. A home with children would not work for him. While he happily lives with five other small dogs in his foster home, he's still reactive to strange dogs. He might like having a canine sibling close to his size (15.5 lbs.), but he would need time to acclimate to a new dog. Because he can play rough, any playmate should be sturdy, preferably male. Parker's prey drive is so high that he even hunts down bugs. Therefore, he shouldn't live with any small pets that he might consider prey. A home with few visitors in a quiet, rural setting would be ideal. He enjoys walks in nice weather and loves exploring his yard, so a fenced area is essential. At night, he sleeps in his crate, and he's house-trained (with outdoor access using a dog door), so he can have free rein indoors during the day. However, he doesn't like to be left alone at home.   When he feels completely secure, Parker is a  sweet, loving boy, who just wants to please. He loves playing, taking car rides, and settling into your lap. To help Parker cope with the stresses of everyday life, his foster mom has sought professional guidance. Parker takes anti-anxiety medication (cost = $4/month) to help him better focus on training to handle incremental introductions to change. Check out his online photo album at https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/parker . Our adoption fee is $200 for adult dogs or $250 for puppies under 6 months old. Story
Pretty Cedar weighs just 13 lbs. The bit of white around her face is the only indication that she's almost 8 years old. Coming from a breeding background with limited positive human interaction, Cedar is shy and skittish. You'll need to go slow and let her get used to you. Then you'll have a new best friend. New people, new experiences, loud noises, and quick movements are all scary to her, but time and treats will help the highly food-motivated rat terrier acclimate. Cedar would do best where her people are home most of the time and there are no children as they specialize in loud noises and quick movements.    Cedar mastered her foster home's routines quickly. She's house-trained using a dog door and sleeps in her crate at night, even putting herself to bed. She has also been left loose indoors for a couple hours at a time without incident. Walking on a leash, although new to her, has become something she looks forward to. Quiet, secluded areas are best as she startles easily. Car rides are not a favorite activity because Cedar tends to get carsick. However, her foster mom has successfully driven her short distances.    Cedar loves cuddling on the sofa and watching TV with her foster mom and canine foster siblings, but sometimes, feeling more independent, she'll find a spot by herself. Also, she loves exploring in the backyard, so a securely fenced yard is a must and a dog door even better. While she doesn't often play with them, Cedar gets along with the other five dogs in her foster home, following their lead, cuddling with them, and seemingly feeling safer around them. She would probably do best living with at least one other gentle dog. While certain house manners could use some polishing (e.g. standing on the coffee table) and she may always be a little skittish, she's a joy to have and cute as a button.
