Story
This past winter, a man quietly moved out of his apartment and left three cats behind. His roommate didn't know what to do with them, and when the lease ended, put them outside during a historic freeze. A volunteer with SAFCC found them huddled tightly together, desperately trying to keep each other warm. One cat was adopted quickly. The other two, Ghosty and Ziggy, have been waiting for a home ever since.Ghosty is an anxious cat, and it's easy to understand why. Maybe it's what happened to him. Maybe it's simply who he is. It took two full months of living with his foster before he came out of hiding and frantically rubbed his chin against the foster’s hand, starved for affection. He's likely to adjust faster in a forever home, but don't be surprised if he spends his first few weeks tucked away, watching from a distance before he decides you're safe.He tends to be a little standoffish, wanting his own space. But once he feels safe, he is sometimes playful and affectionate: chin rubs against your hand, curling up against your leg, walking over and crying for you to grab the wand toy and play with him. He also loves laser toys.Sudden noises and quick movements startle him easily, which means a bustling household with young children or an energetic dog would likely be too much for him. He's slowly learned to live alongside other cats, but new animals still make him nervous, and he may take a swipe at another cat who gets too close too fast.Ghosty might do well as an only cat, although he'd likely be very eager for attention from humans every day. He gets along well with his friend Ziggy, once in a while cuddling together - although Ziggy sometime annoys him by wanting to tackle Ghosty. He's slowly learned to live alongside other cats and will sniff at them curiously or occasionally let them groom him, but he still gets scared sometimes and may insist on personal space. If you have patience to spare and a quiet home to offer, Ghosty could be exactly the cat you didn't know you were looking for. Once earned, his trust and affection are precious gifts for the right person.See photos and videos of Ghosty in this Google Photos album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/qJgxpDraEEJmaJtE6To inquire about adopting this cat please complete an adoption application at tinyurl.com/ccapadoptions
