Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Betty is the epitome of a velcro pup, always eager to be close and shower her people with affection. Though she arrived a bit shy, she quickly adapted to her foster home and has become such a loving companion. Betty thrives on being with people, always following us around, ready for snuggles and the occasional treat. She’s wonderful with everyone, from the youngest children to the oldest members of the family! Betty already has a solid foundation of training—she’s great with potty, leash, and crate, and knows how to sit. When she first arrived, she barked just once, but has been calm and content since. While she’s still warming up to our large resident puppy, she's making progress every day. She’s showing signs of becoming more comfortable and confident around other dogs. With humans, she’s all love! Betty is gentle with kids and sweet to every visitor, greeting them with wagging tails, snuggles, and kisses. She loves to hop onto laps or snuggle up next to you, and if given the chance, she’ll happily cozy up in bed. While she’s not fond of squeaky toys and prefers some quiet time when our resident dog plays, she has her fun, too, with happy bursts of energy, racing around the house when the moment strikes. Betty’s routine includes snuggles outside in the sunshine, walks (we’re still gauging how far she’s up for), and meals. She naps peacefully in her kennel when she needs a break from the excitement of the day, and always joins us for bedtime stories with the kids. Before bedtime, she shares a few cozy minutes with us before settling into her kennel for the night. Betty’s sweet, affectionate nature makes her an absolute joy to have around! BettySue is from Texas. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you. Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
