Story
Knuckles is a cute, scruffy little guy with a whole lot of heart packed into his perfectly manageable 39-pound frame. At about 8 months old, he’s still very much a puppy—just one who’s figuring things out at his own thoughtful pace. Knuckles can be a bit timid when meeting new people or encountering new situations, but give him a minute or two and you’ll see his softer, sillier side start to peek through. Once Knuckles decides you’re a friend, he truly leans in—literally. He enjoys gentle pets and likes to sit nice and close when he’s feeling comfortable, soaking up affection in his quiet, endearing way. He’s also got a hint of mischief that makes him extra lovable, the kind that suggests he’s going to be a fun companion as his confidence grows. Knuckles is just beginning to discover the joy of toys. Like with people, he takes his time approaching something new, but curiosity always wins. He has a favorite ball that he’ll chase, pounce on, and happily try to play a game of keep-away with once he’s feeling brave. Watching him build confidence through play is incredibly rewarding. On walks, Knuckles shows off his polite side—he walks nicely on a leash and enjoys exploring the world at a steady, relaxed pace. He’s the kind of dog who will benefit greatly from a family willing to go slow, offer encouragement, and help him learn that the world is a safe and fun place. With a little patience and a lot of love, Knuckles is going to blossom into a terrific hangout buddy and a truly wonderful companion. GREAT NEWS—This pup will go home with a free training scholarship! These fun, positive reinforcement classes are available in-person or online and are super easy to fit into your schedule. It’s a terrific way to build a bond, learn together, and make a smooth transition into your home. If you are interested in learning more about Knuckles, please call 812-988-7362 or submit an adoption application at the link below. After the application is received, an adoption counselor can reach out to you directly. https://www.bchumane.org/adoption-application/ *All dogs will be neutered, vaccinated with age-appropriate vaccines, heartworm tested, current on parasite prevention and microchipped.

Story
Dodger is the kind of dog who makes you smile the moment he hits the yard. Watching him do zoomies is an absolute treat—he dashes at top speed, cuts sharp turns, and slides into them like a pro, clearly loving every second of it. His enthusiasm is contagious, and it’s hard not to laugh while cheering him on as he burns off energy in the most delightful way. Dodger’s favorite toy is a soft frisbee. He loves to carry it proudly around the yard, toss it into the air, pounce on it, and then look to his person for the next big throw. When you send it flying, Dodger dashes after and will bring it back and drop it right at your feet—especially when he’s ready for some well-earned pets before taking off again. Treats are another big win for Dodger, and he enjoys learning new tricks. Training time with him is fun and upbeat, thanks to his eagerness and positive attitude. He’s a dog who likes to engage, interact, and share experiences with his people. Affection comes easily for Dodger, too. He’s bouncy, loving, and always wearing a happy smile. Ear scratches are a particular favorite, and he leans right in when they’re offered, soaking up the attention. All around, Dodger is a terrific dog—playful, affectionate, and full of life. He’s the kind of companion who will happily join you for active fun and then stick close for cuddles afterward, making every day a little brighter. Story
Quiet, gentle, and always at your side—Evergreen is the kind of companion who stays. 🌲 Evergreen is believed to be a poodle or poodle mix with a soft presence and a heart that’s just beginning to understand what safety and love feel like. Evergreen came to a local shelter as a cruelty case, severely emaciated and frightened, weighing only 15 pounds when a dog his size should likely be closer to 35–40 pounds. So badly matted that sedation was required to safely shave him, nearly five pounds of fur were removed. Even then, Evergreen showed everyone just how gentle he is. Shelter staff quickly fell for him and knew he needed the stability of rescue to continue healing and begin his weight-gain journey. Since entering rescue, Evergreen has been quietly blossoming. Weight is coming on slowly and appropriately, and while still thin, his ribs are no longer prominent. Even more meaningful than the physical changes are the emotional ones—learning that hands bring comfort, not fear, and that being close is a good thing. Evergreen isn’t demanding or loud about affection. Staying near his people is enough. When Evergreen wants attention, a gentle nuzzle to your hand is his way of asking, sometimes followed by a soft paw reaching out just to be sure he has you—and once the petting starts, he’s happiest when it doesn’t stop. Cuddling, resting his head on your shoulder, and quietly following you from room to room are some of his favorite things. Recently, Evergreen has started rolling over for belly rubs, small moments that feel big when you know where he started. This is a dog who will be your steady presence, your quiet companion, your constant sidekick. Evergreen does wonderfully with other dogs and has settled seamlessly into his foster mom’s pack of five wonderfully quirky dogs. Potty training is going well, with happy trips out to the fenced yard and right back inside. Evergreen walks nicely on leash, does well in a crate (even if it’s not his favorite place), and will go in on cue. Smart and eager to please, Evergreen is currently working on sitting instead of jumping when excitement takes over—because sometimes life is just really good. True to his name, Evergreen’s growth feels steady and meaningful. Evergreen is ready for a home where he can continue his weight gain, feel safe, and spend his days right by someone’s side. Evergreen is fostered in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. His adoption fee is $275.00. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
