🐾 Meet Maverick 🐾 Some cats are special… and then there’s me. I’m Maverick, a young neutered male calico, and before you scroll past thinking, “Wait… male calico?” — yes, you read that right. Male calico cats are extremely rare, occurring in only about 1 in every 2,000–3,000 cats. You might think the humans at the shelter made a mistake… but trust me, they checked. I arrived as an intact male, so there was definitely no mix-up. Being a male calico already makes me pretty extraordinary. But my story doesn’t stop there. When I came to the shelter, the staff noticed something concerning — a piece of string hanging from my rear end. A trip to the vet and some x-rays revealed something even more shocking: I had a fish hook lodged in my colon. (Yes… a fish hook. And no, I don’t recommend swallowing one.) Everyone hoped it would pass on its own, so I was monitored closely for five days. When it became clear that hook wasn’t going anywhere, the vet stepped in. Thankfully, with some sedation and some very skilled (and very brave) hands, the hook was removed without surgery. Needless to say, I’ve already used up more than my fair share of lives. Now that all of that is behind me, I’m ready for the part of my story that matters most: finding my forever family.
