Story
Jake is a handsome, 17lb, 4 yr old Schipperke (possibly mix). If you know Schipperkes, Jake will feel very familiar to you. This little guy is smart and inquisitive; at the same time, he wants to please. Jake is content to hang out with you, beside you and/or on your lap.  Jake is an excellent walking partner who can walk up to five or six miles daily. He LOVES his routine of daily morning walks, regardless of the weather. Jake enjoys trail adventures as much as walks in the park and on the greenway, so he would also make a good companion for a runner and/or hiker. Jake is a true Schipperke who is busy and seldom walks when he can trot or scamper. Jake could be an only dog or share his home with another dog his size.  He has some tendencies toward guarding his toys and food around other dogs in the home, so this would require some monitoring/management.  The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA  or East TN. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact h2hadoptions@gmail.com. We require an all-adult home (no young children) with a securely fenced yard attached to the home, 5 ft or higher with NO gaps larger than 2.5 inches.  An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace, temporary fencing or community shared fencing are NOT considered secure fencing. No exceptions. There is an application process and adoption fee. We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business. Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, North Carolina to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports. Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines and are professionally groomed. As needed, our foster dogs have teeth cleanings, extractions, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing. Adoption Fee: $400April 23, 2024, 10:28 pm

Story
Ava recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what her DDO buddy had to say! "Meet Ava! 59lbs, 6 year old, Female, Collie / Shepherd. DDO with sweet lady Ava: Ava did great in the car - she jumped right in & laid down. We started the day out with a walk on some trails at the park. Ava prefers to take the lead on her walks, she knows where she's going and keeps her nose to the ground almost the entire time (exceptions were the stops for affection, treats, and pictures). She's a strong girl don't let her fool you! Affection = little spurts of energy for Ava, she loves it. Did I mention she LOVES a little adventure? I think she would've walked on the trails all day if she could! Ava knows sit and down, and will do anything for a yummy treat! She acts like a lady, did not jump on me or anyone we met on the trail, and gently takes her treats. She did not make a bark our whole time together. Next we rode to the humans house for a little break on the porch where we got lots of pets and love. Soon she was ready to go go go again, so we took a brief stroll around the neighborhood. We ended our day together with a trip to the drive through coffee bar where Ava got a pup cup - plus the much wanted attention from all of the humans - and of course she ate it like a lady, carefully getting the whipped cream out without making a mess. Ava will make a great companion and is at the GCAS waiting on her furever home!" Ava has had positive interactions with other dogs outside of the shelter, but her owner informed us that she can be reactive on leash so it's best not to do introductions on leash. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
